Livorno port: Pisa/Florance DIY Advice

Our cruise on the Norwegian Spirit in April,2013 stops in Livorno. We would like to go Pisa/Florence. We need advise what to do for Excursion? Should we do from NCL or private tour or do it own our own? If we do it ourshelve where do we go? Most likely we do it our own.

When I was scheduled to go to Livorno (which was cancelled due to rough seas and a tricky port approach), we found there are frequent and relatively cheap trains to both places. But we finished up booking a ship's tour to Pisa, because it was so much more convenient for going up the Tower - you need to book tower tickets in advance.
