St Marteen Port

Hi, I could not find a thread for this so I apologize if this is a repeat. Does anyone know if there is anything close to the port that we can do or will we need to go by taxi or ship excursion to do something? Is there a nice beach and shopping within walking distance? :)

There is a whole shopping concourse right when you walk off the ship and a little bar type thing to get a drink. You don't even have to walk very far. No taxi required. However, the nearest beach is a water taxi ride away $7/person. You can see it from the ship. That water taxi drops you right on the beach and boardwalk area, and the main shopping district.
