cruise'n Posted June 12, 2005 #1 Share Posted June 12, 2005 Does anyone have info on where can you find phone cards that you can use in the Baltic ports? Is there one particular kind that can be used in all or most ports? Thanks for your help.
mycruz Posted June 20, 2005 #2 Share Posted June 20, 2005 We got ours at our BJ's Wholesale club. If you don't have BJ's check out Sam's or Costco. They can be ordered on line or at the store. On the Star Princess, 6/
gradyjoyce Posted June 20, 2005 #3 Share Posted June 20, 2005 What kind of card do you buy at Sam's or Costco? Can AT&T cards be used in most ports?
NancyIL Posted June 21, 2005 #4 Share Posted June 21, 2005 What kind of card do you buy at Sam's or Costco? Can AT&T cards be used in most ports? I have used the AT&T prepaid phone cards when in the UK and France. You need to know each country's access code. The cost per minute depends on where you're calling from, but figure that a call from Sweden to the US might cost ~10 units per minute (at 3.47 cents per unit with the Sam's Club card). Phone cards purchased while on the cruise might cost less, but may be a hassle to track down in each port.

Sweetd Posted June 28, 2005 #6 Share Posted June 28, 2005 Just returned from 6/14 Star Princess trip and bought a phone card in Copenhagen that didn't work anywhere! Bought it in store near train station and it says 100 percent Guaranteed Minutes on front of card and has two people shaking hands. Lists freephone #'s in Denmark Germany & Sweden and couldn't get it to work at any pay phones in any of these cities. Be careful buying cards in Copenhagen. Was able to get a phone card at stand next to City Hall in main square in Tallinn for 100 EEK (approx. $5). Made 2 calls at pay phone that lasted about 20+ minutes and connection was like being around the corner (called LA). Hopes this helps.
Gardendog Posted June 29, 2005 #7 Share Posted June 29, 2005 In Sweden you can buy a Telia phone card at Pressbyrån, which is a magazine and candy kiosk shop scattered around any city. Since so many people have cell phones in Scandinavia, the pay phones are getting scarce. The pay phones only use those cards. I believe you can select English when you listen to the operator for the card. You buy "markings", not necessarily minutes, so the longer the distance, the more "markings" you use.
