Jerusalem safe?

Hi everybody,

 

We are planning on taking a private tour of Jerusalem in May,thus want to have an overnight in Jerusalem. Is it safe in the evenings for tourists to just wander around and have supper, and return to hotel? What is the crime rate, if any?

We did an overnight during the November rocket attacks, stayed in the Arab Quarter, walked to the American Colony for dinner and never felt unsafe as to crime.

Just use common sense and you will be fine. When you see people with guns they are there to protect you not harm you. I've been to Israel many times and feel safer there than in any of the big cities in the U.S. where I would think twice about walking around after dark.
