Medicalley Posted April 3, 2013 #1 Share Posted April 3, 2013 We arrive in Talkeetna mid-July on an RCI cruisetour at @ 4.30 pm by Wilderness Express and leave around the same time the following day. There do not seem to be any organised activities pre-arranged by RCI and I am having problems finding activities for our family of five to pre-book. Flight-seeing is too expensive for 5 of us, so we are looking for ground-level things to do! Would appreciate some info from those that have gone before!:)
AKman2495 Posted April 3, 2013 #2 Share Posted April 3, 2013 The problem of course is that Talkeetna is not really a big place. You could walk around the entire downtown area in about 15 minutes. Longer if you stop in at places. Here is a map of the town. Talkeetna is best known as the jumping off place for expeditions to climb Mt. McKinley. That's why there are so many flight services there. I do know there are river cruises out of there as well. But other than that, there is really not much more to do. Also, keep in mind that in mid July it really doesn't get dark. So getting there at 4:30 in the afternoon gives you the rest of the evening to do things.
Glaciers Posted April 3, 2013 #3 Share Posted April 3, 2013 There’s just not much to do in Talkeetna. You could do a jet boat or river float and they now have a zip line. Since you’ll be there over night it is interesting to watch the locals come out to socialize after most of the tourist leave. Lots of flannel and Xtratufs. http://www.talkeetnachamber.org/
Suzanne123 Posted April 3, 2013 #4 Share Posted April 3, 2013 We had a great time on Mahay's jet boat and walk to the trapper's cabin in Talkeetna in August. Bears everywhere.
