Key Largo Dive Operators

We are looking for reviews on Key Largo dive shops. We would like a small boat and ability to dive our own profile with our computer.

What do you think about having a dive guide on KL dives? We usually dive in Cozumel and we always have a dive master leading the dive, which is good for taking pictures. We are AOW divers but enjoy being able to relax and 'go with the flow' on dives.

Thanks in advance for your feedback! :)

Have used these folks on and off for over 20 years: http://keylargodiving.com/

Computer doesn't really do much in Key Largo - unless you dive one of the wrecks. Most of the reefs are less that 45' - many you'd need to dig a hole to get that deep.

Also, the operators are going to still be pretty limited in flexability in order to maintain their schedule (2 trips a day) unless you go whole hog and do a full charter. Possible but pricey.

quit using my 2 hose single stage reg in the 80's as it made the dive operators freak!

Dive ops in the Keys don't typically provide guides, unless you want to pay extra for them. The two exceptions are Paradise Charters and Rainbow Reef, with Paradise Charters providing them automatically, and Rainbow Reef charging only $10 extra per charter for a guide.

The diving in the Keys is typically shallow, with long bottom times. The charters will limit your time rather than your tank limiting your time, but we had dive times of 57-63 minutes each time.

we were snorkeling but had divers with us as well last Nov. Went out on the Pennekamp Reef with the folks from Amoray Dive Resort in KL. They were very professional and accommodating. Might give them a call and see what they can do for you.

yep - should have mentioned that for the most part in the Keys the boat is gonna tie off then point you towards the water and say 'see ya in an hour or at 500lb'... dives are not guided. You are free to do your own thing. Again the exception are things like the DUANE which is a deep wreck dive.

Hi - thanks for all the feedback! We've talked with a couple of shops to get an idea of what they offer. I'll try some of these and see what else we find. We want to do four dives in one day because of our schedule. So far, we are seeing anywhere from $110/person to $150/person for four dives. Anyone know if that's about the range? Each price had different options (no water/snacks or equipment on the first & food, water, equipment included on the second.)

Only one month to go!!

Thanks! :)
