Cruising vibe to Alaska on the Jewel

Gotta question for those that have cruised to Alaska. We've cruised to the Caribbean and through Europe, but never to Alaska. I know during the summer months the weather can be coolish and damp. So what do most people do during the day when they aren't off the boat? When we are sailing or skipping a port, we like to lounge by the pool with a bucket of cold beers, read a book and watch our kids play in the pool. Typcial outside in the summer stuff. So what happens when you are sailing up to Alaska (say in August)? Is the weather nice enough and warm enough to do that? Or are most of the activities done inside? I plan on hitting the casino (on the Jewel), is it overly packed? What are the cool things to do on board, if the weather isn't cooperating?

We have been on three Alaska Cruises, was on the Jewel last year in early

June.. Going on the Jewel later this month..

On all the cruises to Alaska, have seen people using the Pool and Hot tub.

Be sure and bring your Binoculars, Camera, lots to see..

They put on shows every evening.. Plenty of nightlife.. Wife hits the Casino, I don't..

Weather can be rainy, but most pack for it... Only rained once on our last

cruise in Ketchikan..

If weather is not cooperating, we do our viewing from the

spinnaker lounge or the library..

My husband and I did an Alaskan cruise 9 years ago with Celebrity. And it was quite warm in the ports. In Juneau it actually reached 85 the day we were there and a fire broke out in town. Our ship ended up pulling out early (as everyone was back on board) so we could escape the smoke that was wafting all over the ship.

It was cooler on at sea days and the day we went through the ice. As I recall there were blankets set up in the loungers and they sold adult cocoa from a stand on deck.

If your kids are like mine, they probably won't care about the cool on deck temps..especially if the water is heated (I recall reading somewhere that some ships had that)

Hope you have a blast!

They keep the pools around 86 degrees. When we went in August it was cooler so not many people by the pool. It was in the upper 50s or 60s most of the days. The ports kept us busy but back on the ship there are board games to play, demonstrations at times (like towel folding), eating, more eating.

The trips to Alaska will be starting now so someone should be able to post a daily for you to see what is all going on during the day.
