Any Babies on Breakaway yet?

I have thought of the premixed formula, but I'd prefer to not generate so much waste/trash with all those little bottles. Also, that stuff seems way thicker than the powered formula mix, and I don't know how my LO will take to it. I might try some this week before we sail to test it out. I think they make larger bottles of the premix that I would consider buying.

 

Coffeecat-thanks for reminding me about the duckie pool. I've been meaning to ask, how are people filling their pools with water? Are they just scooping it from the ship's pools? And when you're done, where do you dump said water? In theory, it's a great idea/solution to allow our babies some water play time, but in practice how does it work???

Not sure if you are flying but along time ago I flew with 2 cases of the premix glass bottles and since they were glass I wanted them on the plane with me beacause if anything happened to them I would be in trouble since I was getting off the plane and getting on a cruise ship. TSA gave me a lot of trouble and werent very nice but eventually we got it on. I havent used the premix bottles in a such a long time now so not sure if they are even glass anymore but just wanted to give you a heads up.

 

I believe NCL has a baby service where you can order stuff that will be sent to your room when you arrive. They may have that nursery water

We just cruised with a 13 month old on the Breakaway. The guppies was very small but clean. One major complaint I have was when the pack n play was set up our balcony room, you couldn't access the bathroom and there were about 6 inches of room to squeeze through!

 

I concur about the issue with a balcony room and a portable crib.

 

We were on the June 16th sailing of the Breakaway with our 9 month old infant. Initially booked on a balcony BB on deck 8, a week prior to sailing, found out it was right by the waterfront with no privacy. Spoke to my TA, asked to upgrade to a large balcony B6 forward, paid the $400 (ransom) fee. The balcony was twice the size of the balcony staterooms but that's about it. After we set up the crib, there was little room to walk around the cabin no matter how you try to configure the crib. And I'm a skinny guy. I would say 6 inch clearance is about right.

 

On day 2, we went down to Guest Services to see if there's any other rooms available. A nice lady name Katherina said there's a mini-suite, said it'll be $200 (more reasonable) fee. She showed us the room which was on deck 11 and near the elevator. We took her offer. The balcony B6 room was in the forward section of the ship, it was a pain to get to from the elevator because the elevator banks are in the middle and aft. So being near the elevator works well when you are pushing a stroller or using a baby bjorn.

 

Regarding the room, we had to slide the sofa over to closer to the closet but the crib now fits next to our bed without impeding anything (see pics). Also, the bathroom is twice the size of the balcony bathroom with double sinks and full size stand up shower instead of a corner shower. The shower also has 6 jet sprays that my wife liked. We bought an inflatable duck tub from Target, tips from a previous post. And the duck can now fit in the shower or in the bathroom floor whereas you wouldn't be able to fit it in a balcony bathroom at all and not suffocate.

 

So tips to parents travelling with infants who will need a crib / pack'n'play: if you can afford it, book a mini suite. Skip the casino or specialty restaurants if you have to. We found ourselves spending more time in the room than when we were travelling by ourselves.

 

I've told my wife to take these pics to help others travelling with babies.

Thank you for the tips. I'm so glad we chose the mini-suite when booking. I also love the photos of the pack n play set up, it left a lot of room to walk around each other. Sorry you had to change rooms after a day. I was worried the minisuite would be too small.

For the duck pool - we brought a beach pail and filled it w water from the shower located by the pool - this was on a jewel class ship. We emptied it using the pail as well and sendinding it down the same shower drain or drains near the edges of the ship by the railings. On our balcony there was a drain and we sent it right down that as well. Bringing this was the smartest thing to bring on thr cruise - I think the other passengers got a kick out of it and we're happy they weren't in a pool w an infant!
