English_in_Spain Posted June 29, 2013 #4 Share Posted June 29, 2013 I will be sailing out of Barcelona on July 7th. MY plan is to check in on the ship and then get off and have lunch off the ship. I dont want to go to far. ANy suggestions? As I said in answer to a similar question you asked on another 2 threads, there are no restaurants near the cruise terminal and don't forget lunch in Spain doesn't usually start until about 2pm although there are some places you can eat earlier than that. Although I was suggesting a stroll along Las Ramblas and a snack or light meal in La Boqueria market I later realised that you are there on a Sunday so that would not be possible. Also, as I said, my advice would be to take the port shuttle bus to Columbus Monument (buy a return to save money - single €2, return €3) and stroll along Las Ramblas and cut through the Gothic quarter to the Cathedral and see people dancing in the square outside the cathedral (around midday). Eat when you get back to the ship :)

ssb Posted June 29, 2013 #6 Share Posted June 29, 2013 Thanks Carol for your insight.:) However I do recall on one trip there we had long brunch outside in the sidewalk cafe area. It seems it started early or late morning and surely ended late in day. :D We all know how that can happen! I would check weekend opening times with website Or email to check! OP asked about lunch not brunch. As I said in my reply "lunch in Spain doesn't usually start until about 2pm although there are some places you can eat earlier than that" I was just trying to point out that, if they wanted an actual lunch, it was later here than they were probably used to
ssb Posted June 29, 2013 #8 Share Posted June 29, 2013 Thanks again for your helpfulness. You are always a wealth of information!:) I respect that ! Its all customs and semantics and misnomers, an American Lunch or brunch can be 11:00 A European lunch and dinner and supper are later. Yes There are some places you can eat earlier that 2:00. I did suggest that: "I would check weekend opening times with website Or email to check!"

MaddieEms Posted July 4, 2013 #10 Share Posted July 4, 2013 Ciudad Condal and Cerverceria Catalana are NOT near the pier but are accessible via taxi. They are in the Passeig de Gracia area, and both are open early at 9:00 a.m. We ate at Cerverceria Catalana at 10:30 a.m. and there was a 15 minute wait even then. It was packed when we left at around 11:45 a.m. These are both highly rated on TA and Yelp. We also enjoyed our meals there very much. The tapas are delicious. ssb Posted July 8, 2013 #11 Share Posted July 8, 2013 To quote a cruising friend review in Barcelona: "First year we stayed at Hotel Denit, a small boutique hotel just off the Placa Catalunya, it was on a quiet street. We enjoyed Denit. Then we stayed at Continenetal. And my favorite restaurant is Cafe De L'Academia. It is open for lunch, and dinner starts at 8:30. Also, If anyone has a few days in Barcelona, one of my best experiences was doing the 'The Barcelona Taste' tapas tour. A delightful evening! We visited several small tapas bars/cafe's.... I wish we were spending the night in Barcelona just so I could go on the tapas tour again!"
