Nassau casino & beach time

we'll be Nassau in November from 7AM to 2 PM on the RCCL ship the Oasis- would love to just go over to Atlantis to see it and go to the casino for a while and then go to the beach. there is an excursion to Atlantis from the ship ( does not incl the water park) I believe it's $40 per person -but paying $80 to just go over to Atlantis to gamble for an hour or 2 seems crazy - can we walk there from the cruise ship port? are there any other nice public beaches we can go to?

It's too far to walk. You can take a cab then walk around; you'd be able to do the casino, walk around the sunken city, etc. I'm not sure of the cost. Best to view the cost of an excursion in the context of the cost of the whole vacation, not just an individual item. You should expect "resort prices"

Other than the casino, you pretty much have to buy some kind of pass to see Atlantis. But Cabbage Beach is right next door and it's free. Take a cab to Atlantis ($4 a person plus tip) and do your gambling. Then walk over past the RIU hotel to the entrance to the beach. Just be aware that there are no facilities (i.e. bathrooms) on Cabbage Beach. You can rent lounge chairs and buy drinks from the beach vendors. The beach is beautiful but the water can be rough.
