Villefranche to Eze, train or bus?

Recommended Posts

Further to my post above, the Villefranche tourism office emailed me back to confirm that bus #83 is the shuttle bus between Eze train station and Eze Village. It only runs until Sept. 30th.

Also, the main bus stop in Villefranche that is near the tourist office (up the hill) is called "L'Octroi". When you look at schedules at http://www.lignedazur.com/horaires_ligne/index.asp?rub_code=6&thm_id=538&gpl_id=0 there are quite a number of stops listed in Villefranche for Route #100 & you can print the timetable for that particular stop.

Is there only one 112 bus line? I'm really confused. I went to the lignedazur website and the stops and schedule listed for the 112 bus only goes from Nice Gare Routiere to Cap D'Ail-Salines (Hopital) passing by Eze Village on the way. However, on the rca.tm.fr website the list of stops for the 112 Nice-Beausoleil line goes all the way to Monaco Roqueville/Cremailliere, which is about 4 stops after Salines (Hopital). Are these 2 different buses or am I missing something? We were planning to go from Villefranche to Nice and Nice to Eze then onto Monaco and back to Villefranche. I'm really trying to outline all the bus and train options so we can have some flexibility in terms of time or should the train not be running.

Also, has anyone ever heard of the 117 bus? I saw on the lignedazur website that it goes from Villefranche/Mer Le Port to Nice Gare Routiere. Does this mean it stops right at the port of Villefranche sur Mer? This would be great if true - save us a walk to the L'Octroi station mentioned previously to take the 100 bus.

Thanks in advance for any replies!

  • 9 years later...

I have researched this many time and can't get a definite answer

1. Which is the best bus to take from Villefranche to Nice.... #100 or #81

2. From Nice we would like to travel to Monaco/Monte Carlo. If we take the bus #100, where should we get off to see the sights. We are traveling with 2 kids (ages 7 and 9) so don't want to walk/hike anymore then 20 min.

Any advice would be appreciated!

Is there a reason you are opting for the bus instead of the train? You could take the train to Nice and then back to Monaco and then back to Villefranche. It runs about every 15 minutes. As I recall the station in Nice is inland a little but you could walk to the old town and beach in less that 20 minutes. In Villefranche you have to walk up a hill to the bus stop. Train stops right at the port.

From previous posts, it seemed like the city bus was closer to port and was closer to the old market in Nice. I will have to double check again.... Also, once we get off the train in Nice and Monaco.....where do we go?

In Nice, its says to take the tram to Old Nice or a 20 min walk. We also wanted to visit Castle Hill so I thought the bus would be quicker and closer.

I haven't seen any post as to what to do once we get off the train/bus in Monaco.

As I recall the bus will stop closer to the water in Monaco and from there it depends on what you want to see. Since you have kids with you the aquarium and the car museum might work for you. We were interested in Grace Kelly and went the church and the place where she is buried. We also saw the palace and the casino. I doubt kids can go inside but you might like seeing it from the outside. If you take the train you just walk down the hill toward the water. It is all quite walkable.

The train is quite close to the port and the bus is up the hill.

In Nice we have taken the tram from the train station and it was quite easy and we even had luggage with us.

Go to the "ports" page on cruisecritic and you will find lots more info.

This is a thread from 2005! And the questions raised would best be posted (and answered on the France thread). As to buses, we would have no problem with either the #100 or $81 if going from Villefranche into Nice. As to Nice to Monte Carlo, it would depend somewhat on our location in Nice. If close to the train station we would opt for the train which is somewhat faster then the #100 bus. Otherwise, the bus if fine. There are several stops in Monte Carlo that work fine, depending on your personal schedule.

Now the topic of using the train or bus (between Villefranche and Nice) has been discussed (in the French forum) many times. Our problem with the train is that it does not run as often as the bus, and we usually have no interest in going to the area around Nice's train station. The buses give you more options for stops and DW and I usually are heading towards Nice's old town area rather then the central downtown location of the train station.
