Rare alrichards4003 Posted October 1, 2013 Author #27 Share Posted October 1, 2013 Were there any staff that impressed you? We liked the concierge and butler. I really like the martini bar/champagne bar staff, Jose, Dino, Ramon and Fernando. I left hero cards for all of them. I only ate one dinner in the MDR, but the server Milagro was outstanding. Rare alrichards4003 Posted October 1, 2013 Author #30 Share Posted October 1, 2013 Picture of Victoria from our balcony: image by alrichards4003, on Flickr We went to breakfast at Cagney's and ate breakfast there every day. The menu was nice and it was a relaxed atmosphere unlike many buffets. They had the menu and a buffet of fruits, cereal, meat, salmon, breads, pasties and oj and cranberry juice. I had a beginner of a piece of ham and chocolate croissant everyday. The concierge came by to greet us. The captain's cocktail party, was at 7. I prebooked (and prepaid) for three of our specialty dinners. I told him we had dinner at Cagneys at 630 but would like to go to the party, I asked if we could change our reservation to after the party, he said "done" and it was. When we got our shore excursion tickets, there was a note about a $10 refund due to part of the city being closed due to a race. We spoke to the shore excursion desk and they said it was still running, but the downtown portion of the tour would be rerouted. When we pick shore excursions, we each get to pick one and as this was DH's he wanted to go regardless. It was the city highlights and Craigdarroch castle. We saw a deer run through one of the residential neighborhoods. Rare alrichards4003 Posted October 2, 2013 Author #32 Share Posted October 2, 2013 The story of the castle was that Dunsumier acquired wealth, had the castle built but never lived there and was eventually fought over by his widow and children. He had this magnificent place built, but was a loathed figure, and wanted the castle to be on top of the area where he could lord over his wealth over those underneath him. A few more pictures: image by alrichards4003, on Flickr image by alrichards4003, on Flickr it had been cold and rainy. We returned to the pier, I had originally wanted to go to a local pub for lunch, however, with much of the city blocked off, we did not know if we would be able to get back. My husband collects shot glasses from everywhere we travel. He saw the gift shop and wanted to look and of course found one he liked. There was a currency exchange, next to it, so I exchanged the remainder of the Canadian dollars for U.S. dollars. We began to make our way to the ship and then became pelted with the heavy rain. It went from being cold and rainy to hard rain. We decided to go to lunch and picked Blue Lagoon. One of DH's favorite foods was BL tomato basil soup, plus with it being wet and cold, it was what he wanted. I had mozzarella sticks, there were three and could have stood another minute in the fryer, but it was fried cheese, yum. image by alrichards4003, on Flickr DH had chicken strips with buffalo sauce and I had the panini, the panini was good but the arugula made it a little stringy. DH did not get his soup until after he had his chicken. But at least he got it. image by alrichards4003, on Flickr They had mozzarella sticks and potato skins and a meatloaf entree on the menu, but when we left we noticed it was only for the menu for lunch from 11-5, after that those items came off. Rare alrichards4003 Posted October 2, 2013 Author #34 Share Posted October 2, 2013 It was Sunday and they had football on in the bars and served popcorn. DH and I are both football fanatics and each play fantasy football, so we were glad to see the games on. My Cosmo and Popcorn: image by alrichards4003, on Flickr My Chocolate Martini, DH's BBC and Popcorn: image by alrichards4003, on Flickr It was time for the captain's party, I wanted to go because everytime the captain spoke, he was very amusing, but he did not interact much or give a speech. They served cocktails and they passed around h'orderves, one was our butler Nelson who I met for the first time, but my husband had talked to a few times. Other officers stopped by and talked to people. DH had rum punch and I had champagne. image by alrichards4003, on Flickr
Rare alrichards4003 Posted October 2, 2013 Author #35 Share Posted October 2, 2013 it was time for dinner at Cagney's. I preferred the new menu and thought it was easily worth $30 per person. Speakeasy martini and bread: image by alrichards4003, on Flickr I had a lump crab salad and DH had shrimp cocktail for an appetizer, no pictures. I had the filet with gorgonzola topping, bernaise sauce, creamed corn and mac and cheese. The cream corn was amazing. image by alrichards4003, on Flickr DH had ribs and chili: image by alrichards4003, on Flickr We each had the oreo cheesecake. ClaireAndMike Posted October 2, 2013 #37 Share Posted October 2, 2013 We were on this cruise too! What an awesome time! I haven't started my review yet, the week went by in such a blur that I hope I remember. I should've jotted things down daily. Boo on me.

Rare alrichards4003 Posted October 2, 2013 Author #41 Share Posted October 2, 2013 We were on this cruise too! What an awesome time! I haven't started my review yet, the week went by in such a blur that I hope I remember. I should've jotted things down daily. Boo on me. The cruises always go by so fast, it was why I was hesitant to do 6 days, it is just not enough time. Adding a couple of days to the end in LA helped. Rare alrichards4003 Posted October 2, 2013 Author #45 Share Posted October 2, 2013 The seas were very rough, for us it made for great sleeping, once we fixed the door in between the living room and master bedroom. Before it would slide back and forth. image by alrichards4003, on Flickr image by alrichards4003, on Flickr We went to Cagney's for breakfast. I had the seafood over brioche. image by alrichards4003, on Flickr My husband orders, like When Harry Met Sally, someone could finish a cup of coffee waiting for him to order image by alrichards4003, on Flickr
Rare alrichards4003 Posted October 3, 2013 Author #46 Share Posted October 3, 2013 As we were entering the U.S. we had to clear customs before we could get off the ship. Our shore excursion was not until 9:15, but some were earlier and were rushed. We were invited to the Star Bar lounge and since we were in a suite were processed earlier. It was rainy and cold, we are from Florida so cold is anything below 65. Rare alrichards4003 Posted October 3, 2013 Author #47 Share Posted October 3, 2013 The shore excursions were on school buses. Seems like a good use while school is in session, maybe the school district makes a little money, however, they were not the most comfortable seats. We did the Canon Beach and Seaside excursion. image by alrichards4003, on Flickr image by alrichards4003, on Flickr image by alrichards4003, on Flickr image by alrichards4003, on Flickr
Rare alrichards4003 Posted October 3, 2013 Author #48 Share Posted October 3, 2013 Canon Beach was a nice little arts community with lots of shops. image by alrichards4003, on Flickr image by alrichards4003, on Flickr The tour guide recommended two restaurants at Seaside for their clam chowder. We went to Norma's I had the fried seafood with chowder and DH had fish and chips with chowder. image by alrichards4003, on Flickr Afterwards it was back to the spa and when we got back to the room we had treats from the butler. After I told him I liked cheese we got it almost every day. image by alrichards4003, on Flickr

I have all of the Freestyle dailies except day 4 and will have pictures of them at the end. Until tomorrow.
