TorontoSailor Posted November 10, 2013 #1 Share Posted November 10, 2013 Does anyone have any experience with a company that can arrange HIGH-END Mallorca wine tours. We are fairly experienced tasters (trained) and are looking for something a little bit more premier than just a run-of-the mill one winery tourist tasting. Has anyone toured with someone or know of any companies that can arrange it? Ideally, it would be with a company that arranges trips for people who are fairly knowledgeable about wine. We are NOT looking for a beginner's trip. Thanks!
LondonTowner Posted November 11, 2013 #2 Share Posted November 11, 2013 Although wine is produced in Mallorca it is not a large growing Spanish wine growing area. The wine outlets are mainly around the area of Binisalem. Sorry, I can't help you with wine tastings as I have done this in La Rioja, the main wine area of Spain. Elmartellama Posted November 11, 2013 #3 Share Posted November 11, 2013 (edited) Well, Mallorca wines have gained better critics and reputation over the last years, and now they export more wine abroad year after year. Germans are the ones who import more Mallorca wine, since they have an emotional connection with the island that many of them love. In terms of beauty, the Mortitx vineyard is quite unique. It's located in Pollença, in the north of the island: http://www.vinyesmortitx.com Not an expert in terms of quality, but here you have a link with some vineyards: http://www.bodegasmallorca.com/bodegas/Majorca_Wines,_wine_tasting.html I love white wines and there are many of them quite good in my opinion. But to be frank, I just look at the 8€ to 10€ range and it never disappoints (I think wine is cheaper in Spain anyway). I like this brand. Miquel Oliver. They are in Petra, in the center of the island: http://www.miqueloliver.com By the way, Petra is the home town of Fray Junipero Serra, the priest that founded many missions in Mexico and California that later on became cities like San Diego, Los Angeles, etc. He has an statue in the US Capitol in acknowledgement. TorontoSailor Posted November 17, 2013 Author #4 Share Posted November 17, 2013 Thanks for your input. Much appreciated. Looks great there. Mallorca is not one of the top regions, for sure, but you are right: I am hearing that it is really starting to come of age. And Spanish wine, in my opinion, is a real deal. Let's hope it stays that way! Cheers!
