Disney island

Jenna-

There's a couple things to consider here. First, if you're traveling in a party with more than 1 stateroom, there is a form that has to be filled out granting adults in the other stateroom permission to take the child off the ship. The same form applies to any stateroom if you're wishing to grant a child under age 18 permission to disembark the ship without parental supervision at any port of call. If you wish to limit it to just Castaway Cay, you have to specifically put it on the form. The Parental Debarkation Authorization, has to be filled out and on-file and is available at the Guest Services desk on the ship.

Similarly, all of the children's programs use a tracking system in order to know where the children are when in the care of the children's activities program. There is a separate authorization that has to be granted to allow a child (age 8 and up) to come/go from the activities program on their own. That is a permission granted at youth activities check-in OR at anytime by visiting the youth activities desk in the various youth locations.

Hope this helps.

If our grandson wants to go to the kids club area on the island will he get off the ship with us then we go to a specific place on the island to check him in?

Any info about the island and kids club would be appreciated.

The above poster gave some great info.

If you do have permission to take your grandson to and from the clubs, then as you asked, on Castaway Cay you can drop him off at a check in spot for the kids area on the island and pick him up there too. They will even take the kids to lunch if you ok it. They have a large picnic area for them.

Depending on the age of the child there are different areas on the island they can go to. You will have a map of the areas and the kids clubs on board can tell you all about it.

They do have different events for the kids like building sand castles, water fights, crab races and much more. You can sign them up for these activities in the kids clubs.

Kids get their own section of the Navigator paper that lists the events.

The counselors are great about telling the kids about stuff too and in return they will be all excited and tell you too. One way or another you will be informed about events on board and on the island.:)

Note that they will NOT take your children to the water.

If your kids want to swim, you'll have to take them. We know this because we checked our kids into the Club to go check out Serenity bay. 2 minutes after we get there, we get paged to come pick them up. They want to go swimming. Oh well.

Basic bottom line--yes, you or parent (depending on previously done authorizations) will take the child to a specific check in area. They are well supervised with great activities. An authorized adult will also have to pick them up. There are "water play" activities with sprinklers and such, but no swimming in the programming.

Kids must wear t-shirts and shoes, and parents are asked to come by periodically to re-apply sunscreen. Unless the rules have changed, the staff cannot apply any sun product to a child...and that stuff never lasts as long as the package says it will. Yes, they will take the kids to a reserved lunch area if they are in the programming at lunch time; alternatively you can pick them up and take them to lunch with you.

There is about an hour in the morning and again at the end of the day when the CMs are moving the programming from the ship to the island and back again. During those brief periods, the programming is closed (not available on ship or on island.)

Great information. Thank you all. I think we are as excited as our grandson! We have docked a few times next to Disney ships and they look such fun. We take our grandson on holiday each year but this will be our first cruise with him.

The Nursery on the ship will be open on Cay day but there is no onshore nursery option. They also may have limited hours..

On Castaway Cay is there an area for the little ones (under 3) ? We'll have our Grandson who is 14 months old but VERY mobile and loves to play with other toddlers. Thanks.
