Cove balcony

We are considering a last minute booking of a cove balcony on the Magic. Unfortunately, it appears the only ones left are under the galley! Basically, cabins 2405 thru 2441. Is it better to be toward the back of the galley than the middle? Anyone find a particular cabin under the galley quiet. DW does not like noise while trying to sleep. These cabins are attractive for the price.

We were in 2297 on the Magic. This cove balcony does not have a life boat above it. This room does have a shared door between it's neighbor 2293. Noise was not an issue. (ear plugs work great) We used the stairs most of the time as we had plenty of calories to burn. The picture was taken from a tender boat to Belize.

We're you under the galley? If so, how was the noise and what cabins?

Just got off the Dream two days ago. Cove balcony aft #2-386 under the galley. I think I heard something one morning around 730am but, other than that, no noise. Our first cove balcony and we loved being close to the water.

My kids want to sleep outside on our cove balcony. Is the balcony big enough for a twin sized air mattress if we move the chairs?

You would probably have to move the chairs and little table inside to fit the mattress. They clean the decks before you get on so they're wet. At least ours was. My mom dried some of it with towels. And depending on weather, etc they might get some sea spray. If you bungee cord the balcony door open at night you can hear the sound of the ocean. Our boys are 9 and 10 so we lock the balcony door at night. Our youngest sometimes gets up in the middle of the night (sleepwalks?) so having the door locked made me feel more at ease. If you do it, let us know how they liked it. :)

Btw, the balcony is 35 sq ft. I don't know if that helps in calculating if the air mattress will fit.

Thanks, I am getting pretty excited. We fly out tomorrow for our cruise on Sunday. I don't think I am going to have any room in my suitcase for clothes. I-pod, Tablet, phone and chargers for each one. Air Mattress, electric pump, water shoes, sandals, a small fan, bungee cord, shoe organizer, (there will four of us in the room, we will need it.) Bottle opener for when I smuggle some Red Stripe back on the ship when we are in Jamaica, a case of soda, etc.:D

We have had the same cove balcony on Magic 3 times. We book midship and the only noise we ever hear are people in the hallway. Now granted last time we had neighbors who woke us up at 2:00 am having a knockdown screaming fight that resulted in a call to security because we thought someone was being murdered. Second night same thing. Security ended up moving one if the parties to stay with one of their other relatives. After that it was quiet. Now keep in mind they do clean the coves during one of the ports of call so if you stay on ship you won't have access to it.

We had a cove on the Breeze in Sept. We have had many balconies on Carnival, HAL, Princess and NCL..

it was one of our favorites. My DH chews..does not smoke a cigar, and he liked the privacy. He still chatted with neighbors about SEC football. ( September. He is a GA Dog. They seem to cruise a lot because we always meet tons of them. LOVE them. And ditto Roll Tide folks and Seminoles and Florida State. All of where our money rests. tuition fees and such.)

We have sailed on the Dream three times. Two balconies. One inside. ( one of our best cruises ever. I would not hesitate to book another Inside either. Live and learn.)

this time........We are in a Cove by the Mid ship elevators for this March. Elevators are slow on the Dream. It may be it's one flaw. The MDR we will use..is one deck up. The Casino. Home port for DH is three up. On the Elevator or even the stairs if he is impatient. Shore trip desk..one up. pursers Desk........one up.

Lido Deck...........straight up on the elevators. AND the LIDO deck is the one I need to avoid. I can fall into a bowl of chocolate cookies in a minute. Or a slice or two or three of Pizza. And the grilled ham and cheese at the deli....................My Downfall.

And if you are a Triva nut as we are....Two decks up to the Plaza where most of the games are played.

AND ++++++ Daughter and her family, with beloved grand daughter. Age 3 1/2 , down on the Rivera deck in an ocean view deluxe. close enough to get there in an instant. Far enough away to stay out of each other's hair. And one staircase separates us. or One deck on the elevator. plus a tub for our little Doodlebug. And a window seat where she can see the sea. I was glad her Mom backed me in keeping her away from a balcony at night. She can climb like a Monkey. For real. And unlock things like Houdini was her grandpa.

I found I LOVED the Main Deck Cabin. LOVED it. I did not expect to do so. Ditto the COVE. Loved it. AND take the money and book a night or two in the Steakhouse. it is really, really good on the Dream.

My kids want to sleep outside on our cove balcony. Is the balcony big enough for a twin sized air mattress if we move the chairs?

On the Dream (eastern Caribbean route) this past November, our cove balcony got downright flooded several different nights. The water just came crashing down from above - I couldn't sleep, it was so loud - and it got so deep that it was dangerously close to coming in the room, even with the lip at the door. I never noticed anything like it the first time we booked a Cove (November 2011 - western route). I can tell you, I sure wouldn't want to have been sleeping out there when they let loose with the water! We were the 3rd cove from the front (so fairly far forward) on the port side. It seemed that the water must have been coming from some automated window washing system above us or something, but our balcony floor was never dry the whole trip.

Has anyone else experienced this?

  • 4 weeks later...

Just back on the Magic and had cove balcony 2279. Really liked the location. Just one level from the dining. Within 3 levels of most public areas. Only used the elevator to get to the Lido deck. Also did self assist debarkation and only had to drag our luggage one level to get out. Very quiet location.
