flucocruiser Posted January 22, 2014 #1 Share Posted January 22, 2014 So I was looking at some of the older ships and I saw they were built by the same company that builds for RCL but then newer ships are built by the new Italian company(don't know the name) why is that? cjknox Posted January 22, 2014 #2 Share Posted January 22, 2014 (edited) I guess you are referring to the Fantasy class which was built by Kvaerner Masa Yards, and is now known as STX Finland. I'm not exactly sure why the change was made but I do know that Carnival, Fincantieri, and the Italian government have a close relationship so that has something to do with it. Here is an old photo from the late 80's as the Fantasy was being built: Edited January 22, 2014 by cjknox
golfadj Posted January 22, 2014 #3 Share Posted January 22, 2014 Better price?
ragen Posted January 22, 2014 #4 Share Posted January 22, 2014 It works like this: All the Cruise lines Come up with a rough Idea of what they want, They then shop around for Ship Yards and builders who have openings in their sceduals to build it for them that year,..... after that they shop around for bids from the different Company's to get the best price. after that they decide on one to finish the design in more detail & build it for them. So what I'm saying is,......It's about the best prices, & who has time to build it for them that decides these things, it's not really decided on a Brand name of the ship yard or country of manufacture loyalty .;) (that is why the third RCI oasis class ship will be built in a different yard and country than the 1'st two. but still use the same blue-prints.)
