OBC-Using Cash

Just a quick question...When we sailed DCL, instead of using a CC, we used cash when we boarded, when we got down to using a certain amount, front desk just nicely reminded us of what we had left, then we went down and put more cash---anyone ever done this on RCCL?? I'm assuming it'll work the same way?

You can select a cash type account during your online check-in.

Royal does not require cash up front. Once you have charged $500, they will require you to pay down your account. You pay any outstanding balance (or get back any credit) on the last night of the cruise.

What if you have unused OBC's? Go on a shopping spree?

Depends if the OBC is refundable. If the unused OBC is refundable, they will give you cash. If not refundable, then you would lose it.

Most OBC from Royal (Next Cruise, Shareholder, etc.) is not refundable. Most OBC from travel agents is refundable. If you have a combination of refundable and non-refundable OBC, they are supposed to use the non-refundable first.

As a last resort, if you have non-refundable OBC that you would like in cash, you can go to the casino and request a cash from your SeaPass account. They will charge you 5% to do this, but this gets you 95% of your non-refundable OBC back in cash.

You can also use leftover OBC for extra tips. There is a form you can get from guest services to add tips. I've used it for Diamond and Concierge lounge tips - I just don't want to worry about handing out dollar bills during the week or keeping track of exactly how many drinks a particular bartender serves me.

I'm planning on converting some of my RCI Credit Card points to OBC for my upcoming cruise. Since they now add 12/pp per day to your account, I anticipate that I can apply the OBC to tips. Correct?

Correct, and I believe Visa OBC is still refundable, though I would not be surprised if that changed too.

Im using my cc at check in but by the end of the week could I pay my balance with cash..?

This what I meant to say.

This is generally what I do. I take check in with my C/C but take what ever cash I think I will need for onboard spend and then let the balance, if any go on my C/C
