Do people stay a night *after* the cruise?

DH and I stayed a night at the W hotel in South Beach. Cab ride from port to hotel was around $35. A block away from the beach. We had a suite on the top floor and had a beautiful view of the beach/ocean.

On our past two cruises out of Miami (flying into and out of Fort Lauderdale) we decided to fly in early and stay at the Intercontinental in Miami (and take a cab ride over to South Beach to check out the scene). Also, after our last two cruises we took a cab first year back to Hollywood at stayed at the Westin. First year, only 1 night, which I regretted not having booked a stay there longer as they upgraded us to a large corner oceanfront balcony (20 foot balcony... at least) suite (as I had mentioned that we were celebrating our belated 25th Anniversary - - - booked on Hotwire for less than $115.00 Cdn). They surprised us with a bottle of wine and cheese and crackers while we were out for dinner. Forgot to mention, that we also were able to check into our room by 10:30 a.m. (bonus). So on our last cruise we stayed there two nights after our 10 day cruise. Our room wasn't quite as extravagant (however we did get a room with a balcony and partial ocean view). While we were grabbing a quick bite to eat at the small café the next morning, two hotel executives noticed our great tans and asked us where we were from.

We told them cold "Ontario", but that we had just gotten off a cruise ship in Miami and were extending our vacation for two more days by staying in Florida. They went on to "thank us" immensely for choosing their hotel, and went on to say, how impressed they were that we chose them, knowing how many other hotels were out there to choose from. We told them "no" it was a very easy decision as we had stayed here previously and we had already both agreed that we would someday be back. LOVE this place. I just want to add that by extending our stays after our two cruises, it sure did beat spending hours in an airport to catch that later flight home, and we got two FULL extra days in sunny Florida.

We stay 1 one or 2 nites pre and at least two post cruise. Of course, we are retired, so time is on our side.:) In May, we will be staying two nites post cruise in South Beach art deco district at the Essex House, one block from the beach. We haven't been there before, so we are excited to experience the area. Got a great price online for $142.00/nite which the hotel matched.
