Remember the Carnival Tropicale

What a great flash back to my first cruise !

I think some of us have a very romantic idea of the Tropical. Don't get me wrong? It was OK but certainly not like the BREEZE. I would compare it to a 16 inch, black and white TV in the 1960's. Great then but some thing you would not buy again.

 

We took it on a 10 day cruise December 2, 2000. It was during that cruise that Carnival announced it had sold the ship. I remember waiting on the top deck for us to sail and having to look up at all the other cruise ships. When we went down the passageways to our cabin you passed all kinds of pipes and power lines that were exposed on the ceiling. Carnival was not putting any more money in the ship and you could tell. The spaces between the tiles showed some mold and that was certainly not a turn on for the ship. We were suppose to go to Aruba but then they announced that one of the engines was down and we limped into a different port. For some reason the ship leaned to one side due to the engine problem. On the positive side, it was a 10 day cruise visiting ports they don't go to now and we even went through the Panama Canal and into Gatun Lake. So yes I can remember the Tropical.

 

Again don't get me wrong. It has now been 17 Carnival cruises and am booked for number 18 with Carnival in 2015. So you can see I like cruising and cruising on Carnival. My philosophy for cruising, however, is the newest and the biggest. I like the ships with the latest innovations. Give me a Cove Balcony, Early Seating, VIFP, the Casino, the old type shows (without the extra loud music and laser beams), good ports, good (not necessarily outstanding) food and you got one pleased cruiser.

Our first also, Aug. 1987. Walked out the terminal doors and seen this big building, then looked up and I was totally blown away of this ship's size. It is only 37000 ton, small by today's standards.

 

Now we are planning or sixteenth cruise, would have been more if we hadn't take a ten year break from cruising.

 

The Tropicale has gone through four name changes since it was sold to Costa back in 2000. Now known as the "Peace Boat" see link below.

My wife and I sailed on the Tropicale out of San Juan in 1989. It was our first cruise. Great time and great memories. :)

My first cruise was on the Tropicale in 1998. . Such wonderful memories from that cruise. Like other "firsts" , the Tropicale will always have a special place in my heart. Carnival cruise # 15 scheduled in November.
