Looking for some information. We will be staying at Princess' Riverside Lodge. Does anyone know the relationship of the Lodge to points of interest in Fairbanks or if there are any rental car options nearby? Thanks!

The Princess Lodge is located on the Chena River and is very close to the Fairbanks International Airport. A number of the national rental car companies are located at the airport.

 

Fairbanks is fairly spread out so a car will be handy. The Princess is on the west side of Fairbanks, as is the Museum of the North (located on the University of Alaska), while the Fountainhead Antique Auto Museum is on the east side of the community.

You definitely need a rental car in Fairbanks regardless of which hotel you stay at.

The Princess Lodge has a shuttle that will pick you up or take you to the airport (free of charge). The Princess representative in the airport will call them when you return your car. We rented a car upon arrival (Friday night) and returned it on Sunday afternoon.

Since we live here we've never rented a car in Fairbanks so have no idea regarding rental car company's shuttle service.

 

But as already mentioned, Princess does seem to have a shuttle to the airport as we see it at the airport. But also understand the Princess Riverside has closed this winter for the first time in its history. This Princess Lodge had been the only one in Alaska which was open all year, but Princess has admitted that they were losing money on the facility and so closed last December with plans to re-open in May. The past few years a number of hotel rooms (at least four new hotels have been built in the fast five years) have been added to our inventory. As I recall the press release hinted that other cost cutting measures may be implemented. I assume that the shuttle will continue as airport shuttles are an expected feature.
