We are going on an 8 day cruise in July with an 18 and 20 yr old. Will there be enough things to do to keep them occupied on the 3 sea days. They are too old for the teen club and too young for the adult experiences. This is the last family adventure as my 20 yr old is graduating college and my 18 year old has enlisted in the Marines.

The only things they won't be able to do is drink and go into the serenity area. The can gamble, go to all the shows and the clubs.

I'll add that the night clubs are 21+ after a certain time. (11:00 or 11:30, I don't remember.) There are security guards checking ids at the door.

They could play volleyball (16+), though ship folks organized volleyball only twice on the Liberty that I was aware of (3/22 to 3/29). Besides, there are always shore excursions to stay busy.

According to the Carnival FAQs it is 18+ after 10:00. That is what I remember from our cruise last summer with our 19 year old DS. He could go in but he needed to be 21+ to drink.

They aren't teens - they're young adults! (Who aren't yet old enough to drink legally on the ship.) None of us can really tell you whether or not they'll be bored because we don't know what activities they enjoy or how much stimulation they need. Are you asking this question because they've cruised before and spent a lot of time in the teen club? Or have they never cruised, and you aren't sure if they'll enjoy it? If you let us know what they normally enjoy doing in their free time, we can better answer your question. As long as they don't depend on getting hammered to have a good time, whether or not they'll be bored cruising has more to do with what they'll enjoy than their ages.

The only "adult experiences" they are too young for are drinking alcohol and lounging in Serenity (they'll probably enjoy the entertainment by the main pool more, anyway).... and while the nightclub is normally 18+, I believe they restrict the age to 21+ on spring break cruises when a lot of young adults are on board to prevent underage drinking.

Besides that they are free to play organized adult sports, gamble in the casino, watch the adult comedy show, and even play Quest (listed as "Adult Games" on Fun Times).

Thanks for your child's service to the country. I believe Carnival is now trying to have group activities for that age group, but I am not sure about that. Liberty is a great ship. They will have a great time.

They have cruised before so yest they did spend time in the teen clubs which they enjoyed. As far as drinking, I personally feel that if my son can go serve his country then a couple of drinks cannot hurt. Now the other child...he is in college at Indiana University, which is a known party school, he lives off campus. I am sure he partakes in a few adult beverages.

Hello Louisville Fan,

This is totally off topic, but I cannot resit! As a fellow New Albanian, I am a little confused about your screen name and the fact that your son goes to Indiana University!! Just kidding!!

We are booked on the Liberty for October and cannot wait to go. We are upset that our youngest daughter (21) will not be able to go, but she is dedicated to her studies at University of Southern Indiana.

I am sure you and your young adults will have no issues finding things to do and have fun. Looking forward to your review when you return!

Go Hoosiers!!!

Well if they enjoy drinking, they can always drink in port..... they just can't be legally served by a bartender on the ship.

NCL actually lets parents sign for their 18-20 year old children to drink beer or wine on Caribbean cruises. You might look into sailing with NCL in the future - they have some pretty great ships sailing out of Miami, and the new Getaway is sailing out of Miami year-round.
