We are looking at the 17 day repo cruise from San Diego to Santiago Chile in NOV 2015. What is the closest airport to the port where we will disembark?

What is the best hotel in Santiago for a few days post cruise?

Thanks for the info,

Lynda

The port is Valparaiso, while Santiago is 72 miles from Santiago. The Santiago airport is in Santiago on the Valparaiso side of the city.

I would advise spending a couple of days after your Cruise in Chile.

We have been to Chile twice, on two cruises. Both ended in Valparaiso.

We used Southexcursions for transport to Santiago as well as tours of Valparaiso, the Casablanca wine region (between Valpo and Santiago) and Santiago.

As for hotels, we stayed in Vina del Mar (close to Valpo) on one occasion and twice have stayed in Santiago.

Here are my reviews of both cruises, which have details on the Chile post cruise travel, tours and hotels.

The closest (international) airport is Santiago (SCL).

My hotel recommendation is the Radisson plaza Santiago. Here is my review: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showpost.php?p=42666986&postcount=4

It is a wonderful hotel and we have stayed there on two separate occasions. If you can get the Carlson Family & Friends rate, it will cost you $80/night with no tax. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/hotel-deals/1006932-carlson-hotels-radisson-family-friends-rate.html

"Best" hotel in what way? What is your budget? There are lots and lots of hotels. We looked at reviews and stayed at the Orly. Nice, not basic, but not luxurious. Your budget will mean a lot. We liked he historic, hillside town of Valparaiso. Some people like to stay there. There is a "resort" town on the ocean nearby. We enjoyed Santiago's historic sites. You should research what its attractions and see if they appeal to you.

Lots of airlines fly from SCL to the U.S. At the time of our trip, Avianca had the best fares to LAX, where we were going (change of planes in Bogota). LAN had non-stops to LAX. Make sure you book a flight from SCL, and not SLC, as the latter is Salt Lake City :-) Far too early to look for November 2015 flights yet, of course.
