Smoking policy for balcony adult's only pool?

I think every cruise line allows smoking in the casino-no problem for me as I am not a casino fan anyway.

The problem with our last HAL cruise was, since their competition has stopped the smoking on balconies, they have a much higher percentage of smokers. It was close to 50%, when it was 20%, I had no problem with HAL.We even had a chain smoker next door to us on our balcony on a cruise in 2008, but it was not a problem as the smoke quickly dissipated. I loved HAL back then. it seems a small amount of smoke dissipates quickly.

Our last HAL cruise, there were much larger amounts which carried over to the not smoking areas nearby the smoking areas.

I knew I wasn't crazy when I never saw or smelled cigarette smoke in the casino.

Following a recent wave of cruise line’s altering their onboard smoking policies, MSC Cruises has altered the smoking policies for the MSC Divina’s Caribbean sailings.

Here is the full statement from MSC:

“Effective November 2nd 2012, when MSC Divina’s Grand Voyage departs Venice en route to Miami, smoking areas on MSC Divina will be limited to two general areas: the Cigar Lounge and port side of designated outside decks (away from all bars and food areas). The Top Sail Lounge, located in the prestigious and private MSC Yacht Club, and the Black & White Lounge will also become 100% non-smoking. In addition, the casino has been designated as non-smoking. At the discretion of the casino manager, smoking will be occasionally allowed for playing guests, during certain hours and in limited areas that will be clearly designated as smoking permitted.

I was incorrect about the smoking section being on the starboard side,,it is port side,,can never keep those two sides straight.

I do not want a massage I want to use the hot tubs-oh my goodness! No deal for the length of the cruise.

HAL's deal was $100 a person for a 10 day partial Panama canal cruise.

They also do an entire cruise deal. Think it is usually €99 based on 7 nights. I don't know if they'd offer this on a 4 night or not as I've never sailed for less than 7.

I personally don't think it is worth it unless you intend to go at least once per day and on port intensive cruises, most people would rather be ashore all day than sitting in the spa, but each to their own.

The ships I am considering are Orchestra and Splendida. Ann Mondo is from Britain and seems very familiar with all the ships, she said no. I am guessing neither of these are the same class as Divina.

No matter Ann has convinced me I would hate MSC. I am no longer willing to do 15 days on MSC for a first cruise with them. Maybe I will try them for a Caribbean cruise some time, as it won't cost me as much.

NCL is one of my least favorite lines, but I am begining to think they are a better choice for me as I know what they are like. The September 24, 2115 NCL Star hits all the ports we want in a repositioning cruise and their spa pool, which is adults only, is $200 a person for a pass for a 12 day cruise.

Oh dear didn't mean to put you off!

SC's land side service is a bit disorganised at times but onboard is so much better otherwise I'd not cruise with them as often as I do. For some reason they seem to be better at responding via FB these days.

MSC's entire cruise proce is usually €99 pp

Which in dollars vary by the exchange rate. It could be $150 a person so not sure what an 11 day would cost. However, NCL charges $200 a person for 12-14 day cruises. I would spend it. I would rather spend my money on that than a balcony on NCL, but again NCL allows smoking on balconies.

I will have to look at the itinerary again-but you are right, with 12 hour ports, and few sea days,it may would be a waste.

However, on Celebrity Solstice we had 12 hour ports, and I was so tired in the evening several nights that I preferred the buffet and spending time at their solarium adults only pool to dinner and a show. After a bit of time there, I went back to our room and watched TV until bedtime. Hubby whose energy is better, he would go after the pool time to the lounge that had a trio who played classical music.

I will have to weigh that.

My low energy is one reason I do not rate food as a top priority when booking a cruise with the long ports is the fact that I know if I am very tired, it plain does not matter,as then I just do not want to go to bed hungry. For a more leisurely cruise, such as the Caribbean, where we are repeating ports and I am apt to spend more time on ship, then food is more important and I do like Celebrity's food the best of the 7 lines I have cruised, but in this case, it is about ports not cruiseline.

The aft pool of the Fantasia class (deck 15) is not adult only. The solarium on deck 17 is, but you have to pay so we never used it.

Nevertheless, the aft pool of the Fantasia class is a nice quite area. Since there is no animation team and the music is more relaxed it is mainly occupied by adults. But nothing stops hordes of children from going there if they want.

That area has a problem though. If its windy it might just stink, since the fumes that the ship expels go directly there. It happened to us and we didn't like it. If you moved a little the problem could be solved, but sometimes all chairs were taken.

The most beautiful pool in my opinion is the covered pool or solarium on deck 14. But it's true that there are many children there. Since there are tables and a bar there you can enjoy the views and have a great time, it's lovely.

I don't think the Orchestra has a covered pool, which to us is annoying for its upcoming Nordic itineraries.

  • 4 weeks later...

Just for off msc preziosa ..we enjoyed it although wouldn't recommend at all as the Italians were so rude... And the smoking was awful. All the port outside places you could smoke, the casino ever night too. It just stunk ... I used to love a little flutter too..

We paid €99 for two for the week to enter the sauna, steam room, relaxation area and fridgearium ( spelling).. There was always lots of space there as people didn't want to pay. There was also a pool under a sliding roof too.

Hard to allow smoking in an non existent casino!

BTW Celebrity offers "smokefree nights." I THINK one night on a 7 day cruise.

The casino on the Divina in the Caribbean is smoke free! That may not be the case in Europe where there is more smoking! Our opinion is all the cruise lines have more smoking in Europe!

The Divina has an open area near the center/top deck of the ship that has a whirlpool/no pool, and is adult only, costs 'about' $30 a day/2 people all day, $15/2/half a day! Specials will reduce these prices!

The pools seemed to all have kids in them, the aft pool the least(Divina)!
