rdytocruz Posted August 6, 2005 #1 Share Posted August 6, 2005 Did anybody take the tour of the monastery at Montserrat while in Barcelona? We have this booked for our Liberty cruise on Sept 18th so if anybody has any information I would appreciate your sharing. Everyone has been so kind to take the time to share information. Thanks! andydee Posted August 7, 2005 #3 Share Posted August 7, 2005 We did this tour on our own by train from Barcelona last year. It was well worth the trip, an amazing place really. Cheers, Andy

jmlh Posted August 8, 2005 #5 Share Posted August 8, 2005 I agree with the above comments. We visited Montserrat by train from Barcelona last week and it was amazing. It is easy to get to and the train ride provides wonderful scenery. Be sure to take the tram to the higher levels and do a bit of hiking. Incredible views! It was unfortunate the boys choir was on vacation, however as we entered the church a wedding started! It was a beautiful sight as the soloist sang Ave Maria. We will always have wonderful memories of our day at Montserrat!
dbh62ark Posted August 8, 2005 #6 Share Posted August 8, 2005 I also highly recommend Montserrat, but it can be hard to do in a port call if you don't have a late sailing from Barcelona. You'll need to take a train and two funiculars from Barcelona if you go independently. The funiculars take you way up to the mountain to the monastery. I guess another alternative would be to rent a car in Barcelona, but I haven't seen any posts on that. The setting and scenery are gorgeous, so it was a great option for those like us who had spent plenty of time in Barcelona. Have a great trip, Donna
