Stinger Suits?

We will be cruising in January to the south pacific and just wondering do you need to wear stinger suits while snorkelling?

No one on the tours we took wore one. We all had rash guards, water shoes, snorkel gear, some brought their fins and snorkel vests. Waterproof cameras & Go Pros were popular.

I see that you are from Australia where stingers are prolific at certain times of the year, at least in Queensland. I have never heard anything about them on the islands and never seen anyone wear a stinger suit.

Not in the South Pacific. QLD definitely yes, but the South Pacific is fine and you won't need Stinger Suits.

As other posters have said stinger suits aren't required around the Pacific Islands - at least not anywhere that we have been on cruises.

We have snorkelled at lots of places and all have been around December and January. It pays to wear a rash vest though as it's very easy to get your back badly sunburnt while you are happily floating around.:eek:

The one thing to be careful of is to not stand on the coral as it not only gets destroyed :( but you can also get a coral cut which are very susceptible to getting infected and that would definitely ruin your holiday.

Thanks for the reply's we have been in north Queensland in January and know about the stingers that's why I was unsure about the south pacific
