Vancouver disembark

Recommended Posts

First time cruisers, we are on HAL Statenman. Couple of questions, hope this forum can advise.

We arrive at 7:00 am in Vancouver and want to get off quickly and head for Victoria to spead time at Butchaard Gardens. We are flying home from Victoria.

Should we do self disembark ?

I've tried to find a car rental, but having trouble (Sunday, a lot of car rentals aren't open on Sunday or not till noon). Suggestions on cars or other way of getting to and around Victoria? Going by air too expensive and would rather enjoy the ride.

Since we will be in Victoria the one day (flying out on Monday am) recommendations on hotel.

This is our first time in Alaska, and cruising celebrating our 35th wedding anniversary. Excited and trying not to anxious about unknowns. Cruise critic has helped a lot.

Happy Anniversary.

Self assist is usually the fastest way off the ship. To do it, you will need to be able to manage all your luggage as you get off the ship. If you do not have a free hand to hold onto the escalator, you will likely be directed to the elevators. They quickly backup.

The fact that the ship is due to arrive at 7am does not mean that debarkation will begin immediately. Ship will probably have to be cleared by Canadian officials before anyone can get off. Best guess, you will be off between 7:30 and 8:30

I did a quick search and both the Hertz location on Granville and the Avis location on Hornby open at 8am on Sundays. Both locations are less than a five minute cab ride.A mid-size Avis test booking showed a Sunday-Monday rental with a drop the the Victoria will run around 130.00CAD. YMMV on rate.

Cab it to the airport (YVR). It is right on the way to the Tsawwassen Ferry Terminal where you will get on the ferry to Victoria. The airport pick-up will give you more car rental options.
