Where to buy soda package?

Recommended Posts

I know I could do this online before I board but wanted to get for my two boys the day we embark so I can use some of my OBC. Where can you purchase this? Are there stands throughout the ship or do I go to Guest Services? Bought on a prior cruise but for life of me can't remember where I got it.

There will be crewmembers at tables on the Promenade selling all the packages.

Correct me Bob, if I am wrong. I bought the soda package one time as soon as we got on board the ship. I was charged tax on it. I was told by someone, that if I had waited until we were out to sea, there would be no tax. From that point on I bought it on line before sailing. Is this correct? Or does it depend on which port you are leaving from, whether they charge tax or not?

Thanks,

Gwen :)

I've never seen tax charged on packages purchased in US ports. Individual drinks, yes, but not packages.

However, in European ports, such as Barcelona, sales may be subject to VAT tax. Every time I read about the conditions with regard to charging VAT tax, my head starts hurting, so I don't have a handle on that.

It was on the Explorer, so maybe a Jersey thing....

You can buy online before you sail and the cup will be in your cabin and a stamp on your seapss card.

Or there will be tables set-up not far from where to board the ship (depending on the ship).

Would not surprise me, I learn things every day on this board. However, we were not charged tax (except for the 15% gratuity) on a wine package we bought this past year on EX.

You can also get it right outside the Windjammer. They usually have tables set up there. As far as Tax, I have never been charged anything extra, whether I bought online or on the Ship.

The ship was still docked when I purchased the soda package. When I questioned, why the tax, someone said because we were docked. Now, this was years ago. Maybe that is why the shops on board are not open while in port, otherwise they would have to charge the local tax. I don't know. All I know is that I was charged tax on it. That is why I now purchase on line or at least wait until we are out to sea. Nothing is ever consistent with Royal.

That's where I bought it, it all came back to me when I saw your post. Hopefully no tax. Want to purchase onboard to use my OBC.

As I understand it, whenever a ship is in port, they have to abide by the particular tax and alcohol laws of the state in which the port is. I know that when we first embarked Navigator in Galveston, TX, the bars that are open on board can only sell certain liquors for which they have paid the locals the appropriate taxes on. This is also the reason that all the shops on board and casino is closed when the ship is not in international waters.

There are stands on board the ship. One when you board and one in front of the Windjammer. You can also purchase them early on RCI website.
