Check out the Port of Call area for ideas, and visit your roll call to see if anyone has any tours organized.
John Bull Posted July 30, 2014 #4 Share Posted July 30, 2014 (edited) Hi, & welcome to Cruise Critic, Yes, you can do your own thing in the South American ports - in some places you need to take a little extra care with where you go, and with what you carry & how you carry it. Common sense covers most of that. It's always worth quoting your ports - we don't know all the ships' itineraries and many won't even have sailed Celebrity but which ship or cruise line makes little difference in what to do & how to do it in the ports. Plenty of info about the ports on the South America forum, and ask any port questions there. Here's a link: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?s=&daysprune=&f=76 You can "meet" some of your fellow-cruisers on your ship's RollCall (Connections or Meet & Mingle mean the same thing) and mebbe arrange to share private pre-booked tours (shared tours are usually better value & better experiences than ship's tours, & often cheaper & better than DIY. Here's a link to Infinity's RollCalls, http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=283 You'll need to scroll through to your sailing date - the threads aren't in chronological order. And remember our US cousins put dates as month then day, so for example 10th August may show as 8/10. Those forums & a mind-boggling list of others by scrolling to the bottom of this page & clicking on the arrow at "forum jump". If you get lost on Cruise Critic, just click on your name top right any page & you can navigate back to your posts. Missymo Posted July 30, 2014 #5 Share Posted July 30, 2014 (edited) Hi we are joining celebrity infinity in jan 2015 to cruise around South America. We are heading up the Amazon. On debating the options of cruise tours vs private tours. We opted for private tours except one where we had no choice but to go with the cruise line. Saved alot of money, plus signed up for smaller private tours with the same passengers on my cruise forum. Looks like great tours that have been researched. A great way to "meet " before sailing .
