Dinner on the legend

Hi, Ok this is my dilema... Me and hubby went on our first cruise last year on the NCL Dawn. We had a blast. I loved every second of the week I spent on that ship. I loved the fact that I could wear capris all week in the dining room and my hubby wore slacks and a polo. Now we are thinking of going cruising again in 2006 but thinking of doing the legend. Is carnival more dressy uppy when it comes to the restaurants? I dont want to get stuck eating at the buffett every night cause I dont want to wear a gown. We did wear wedding attire the night of the captains dinner so thats not bad but to do it each night of my once a year vacation is not in the plans..So if anyone has any thoughts or comments please share. Also those who been on the Dawn and the legend I would love to hear your thoughts. And also from those just on the legend. Friends that we are going with would rather not to NCL again so trying to make everyone happy.

Thanks

Linda

I just recently cruised on the Legend two weeks ago. There are 2 formal nights on an 8 day cruise. On the other nights I wore nice slacks or capris with a nice top. My BF wore dockers, tropical shirt or polo shirt. That was all acceptable.

I agree with Starz723 (Hi Marge!). I wore mostly capris and a nice top except for the 2 formal nights. On the first formal night I wore a black long skirt with a sleeveless knit top, bare legs and sandals so I didn't even think of it as getting that dressed up. On the second formal night I wore a matching floral long skirt and top and once again bare legs (I hate pantyhose!) and sandals. Both outfits were appropriate. Some people really go all the way with tuxedos and gowns. Not for me.......

Hi Tiger-

My hubby and I were on the Dawn last year, and on the Legend two weeks ago (same cruise as Starz)

With regard to how to dress: I agree with Starz - you can dress fairly casually on the Legend on non-formal nights. I wore either slacks and a top or a casual dress or skirt. My husband wore button down short sleeve shirts and dockers. You aren't supposed to wear shorts or jeans in the dining room but of course you get all kinds on cruises, and I didn't witness any employees in the dining room enforcing the dress code. I actually like getting dressed up on cruises - I wear enough shorts/jeans at home! Formal nights on the Legend do not require evening gowns or tuxes, although some wear them. A suit for your husband, and dressy evening wear for you will be fine.

I enjoy the assigned seating of cruises like the Legend as opposed to the Dawn's Freestyle theme, but that is only my opinion.

If I had to say which cruise I enjoyed more, I think I'd say the Dawn. I think I'm in the minority on this one, but I actually think there was more stuff to do on the Dawn than on the Legend. The shows on the Dawn blew away the Legend, and I found the decor of the Legend a bit over the top for me.

Have a great vacation whatever you decide.

I completely agree.

You can be semi-formal and still comfortable, or even more casual than that. For my upcoming 5-day on the Triumph , for the one Formal night, I am brining a nice sleeveless dress. For the rest of the cruise, I am bringing a cocktail dress & two skirts. I can mix & match a few nice shirts from there. I will be brining a couple more dressy shirts for dinner only. But, this is just me. I like getting dressed up most of the time, and if I don't, but still want to eat in the dining room, I resort to capris. With a nice shirt, it's all good :D You certainly don't have to be as dressed up as for the Captain's dinner every night.

Beleive me, the I-like-getting-dressed up thing is for dinner only, though. Before and after I'm back in my comfy shorts and T-Shirt :)

I was on the Dawn in September. That cruise was absolutely amazing, and I, as you, enjoyed every second of the week on that vacation. My first cruise was on the Carnival Victory about 3 years back, and I loved that cruise as well. That was my first though, so I was in awe ;) Im sure I'll have a blast on the Triumph in 9 days, but I'm not sure how it will compare to the Dawan, as I don't remember many specific details about criusing with Carnival compared to NCL.

I have to say, the only thing I think I'm really going to miss is the Freestyle Dining. With 10 different (and very nice!) resteraunts on the Dawn, plus the whenever-you-want seating time for the resteraunts, it will be, well, different.

I'm sure you'll have a blast on Carnival, as I know I will on my next cruise with them. Hey - As long as I'm crusing, I'll be more than happy ;) :D

Thank you all so much. We are still decided what to do. Now my oldest isnt sure if she wants to go. Which only means 1 room instead of 2..More money to spend on the islands..Or in the casino..LOL

So on the legend you have to pick a dinner time? I guess we cant just eat when we want huh? Hmm that might stink. But is that for every night in the main dinning room?

yes, when you book your cruise they ask if you'd prefer the early or late seating (5:45 and 8:00 I believe)

it is for dinner every night. you will be at the same table every night. of course, if you want to eat at the buffet that is always an option - you can eat there at anytime.

good luck:)

We have been on the Dawn and Legend this year and love them both. We wore the same clothes for non-formal nights as we did for the Dawn. DH wore dockers and polos and I wore slacks/capris with nice tops. For the 2 formal nights I wore a long black skirt with dressy tank/sheer blouse and skirt/dressy top with dressy sandals (I'm not really the dress-up type). DH wore a suit on the formal nights. My son did see a family not allowed in the dining room on formal night but not sure what they were wearing. On casual nights we did see many people wear jeans but no shorts in the dining room.

We requested late seating for 4 (cruised with family or friends) both times on the Legend. We always check our seating assignments when we board because we prefer not to dine with strangers. The 1st time they gave us a table for 6 and they said we were cruising in a group -NOT, so he changed it to a table for 4. The 2nd time we did get our requested table assignment.

We always eat dinner in the dining rooms on cruises; we enjoy the quality of the meals, the service of being served, and the ambiance of the formal dining rooms.

We personally enjoy the production shows and really liked the Legend shows better. We usually do not have much luck with comedians, jugglers, magicians etc. but really enjoyed Second City on the Dawn. We found on some nights on the Dawn, we had to eat earlier than we would have liked to catch a show, while on the Legend we never had a problem getting to the show on time with our scheduled dining time.

If you liked the Dawn, you should enjoy the Legend ....
