Onboard Credit

If i am correct, we will be charged $12. per person per day for tips. For 2 of us for 4 days that is $96. If i have $200. onboard credt, what happens to the rest of the money if we dont spend it?

Depending on the source of the Onboard Credit, you will either forfeit it (OBC from TA or DCL), or it will reimbursed (if it was purchased by either you or someone else for you).

 

Are not planning any excursions? Or purchasing photographs? Or souvenirs? How about a late night drink at one of the lounges? Those all will be charged to your onboard account.

There are 2 types of onboard credit--refundable and non-refundable.

 

Non-refundable generally means it came from some Disney source--Visa credit, onboard rebooking credit, etc. If you have that,make a trip to the gift shop or tip very generously. It is "use it or lose it."

 

Refundable usually comes either from money that you paid into your account before the cruise or money from your travel agent. If you don't spend it, it will be refunded to the source who paid it in..so if it was from a TA, THEY will get the money back,not you. Unless YOU paid to place the money there, again, may as well buy a couple t-shirts and use it up.

 

Seriously, I've been known to spend it down to the last penny by increasing the tips. The amounts might look odd, but I'd rather have any extra funds go to a hard working crew member than back to DCL's general fund. The CM isn't going to care when their check shows $36.82 instead of $28; the odd amount won't matter. They just know they got a bigger check than anticipated.
