seadams15 Posted September 10, 2014 #1 Share Posted September 10, 2014 I've read all over CC and seem to be getting mixed messages as to what really happens. We have a good deal of Early saver OBC and promotional money from the gift card sale coming our way. I've read "don't use it, you lose it", you'll get a check under your door on the last morning, and also the casino method. We're sailing on Carnival liberty in less then a month. Does anyone have any recent experience on what we should do as far as getting back the unused portion? Thank you! :D Ps. Can someone explain how to use the casino method! k2excursion Posted September 10, 2014 #3 Share Posted September 10, 2014 ES OBC is supposed to be refundable. So if you don't use it all, you would get a check on the last morning. That's what happened with me a couple years ago. I don't know if they use a different method to refund it now. On one cruise, I had too much nonrefundable OBC. I used the casino method. You put your sail & sign card into a slot machine. It asks you to set up your players club account, choosing a pin #. You then charge whatever amount to your sail & sign account. I chose enough to cover how much OBC was remaining. That money got put into my players club account. When I did a pull on the slot machine, it reduced my players club account, and if someone else were playing who would actually have a shot at ever winning a penny, the winnings would get added to the players club account. When I had enough of losing (doesn't take long), I "cashed out" my players club account on that machine. I then go up to the cashier and ask for the cash from my players club account. If you don't play the slot machines at all, you can just cash out on the machine and go to the cashier. And you've got your cash in hand. The cashier will know what you were doing, and they may not let you do it again. So only plan to do that once per cruise. Some people like to use this method to get cash for their shore excursions. That way, they don't have to carry much cash onto the cruise with them, and they get points or cash back on their credit card.
N7786W Flyer Posted September 10, 2014 #4 Share Posted September 10, 2014 I just got off the Fantasy yesterday morning and the policy is to mail you a check for the balance in 7 days or less. We debarked with a positive balance of $97 and was told the above. I think they used to actually give you a check the day of debarkation, but apparently, that changed somewhere along the way. Having said that, you need to check your account when you board and make sure the credit is marked as "refundable" as some of the credits (promotions, etc) are considered "non-refundable" and a "use it or lose it" scenario applies. Reunioncruiser Posted September 10, 2014 #5 Share Posted September 10, 2014 I'm not sure if the Liberty has a kiosk, but the Breeze did. We used that to take out cash early on in the trip, which was handy to use while in port. There is no fee for the kiosks.
