Celebrity cruiser tries Carnival (not yet!)

Tatka,

One more thought about the Carnival Liberty: one can also use the money saved by not booking Celebrity or Princess to get a suite; that way one gets more space and hopefully better services. I would be content with an inside room on any ship, but often get a suite since luckily my daughter makes all the arrangements and picks up the tab!;)

If Celeb is like a good Sheraton or an Intercon, a new Carnival ship should be like one of the bigger, newer, casino hotels. The older C ships are like smaller, older (more worn) casino hotels.

Have fun! Your 13 yo MAY have grown out of pool slides - I haven't!

I cannot compare the two cruise lines yet since I just booked my first Celebrity cruise for February. I can't wait. I did just get back from the Carnival Liberty.

The food on Carnival is probably not as good, but they are trying. They do serve lobser tails on formal night which weren't that bad. Our waiter was great. We picked up wine from every port in Europe and brought it to dinner. He never charged us a corkage fee (supposed to charge $10) I never saw people wearing shorts at dinner. People were mostly dressed properly even though sometimes early sitting had to run to make dinner at some ports.

Carnival seems to attract young people with kids because there is so much for them to do. The new Carnival Liberty had a huge TV screen outside by the pool which they showed movies at night. People really seemed to love it.

The cabins on Carnival are larger than on Celebrity and they just added new bedding to the ships which are very comfortable.

If you compare prices, Carnival gives you a lot of value for your money. On the Mediterranean cruise, we really spent little time on the ship. I look at the ports on the cruise and thats how I decide which cruise to take. Of course, I do have my favorite cruise lines.

Have a great time on the Liberty. Its a great ship.
