cruzdreamz Posted November 15, 2014 #1 Share Posted November 15, 2014 Hi, can we expect the duty free shops to be open on the Voyager of the Seas on a 3 night cruise to nowhere? If they will be open what type of duty free items/ shops will be available. Thanks:)
Clarea Posted November 15, 2014 #2 Share Posted November 15, 2014 Once they are outside the legal distance limit, the shops will open. They have things like cigarettes, liquor, jewelry, watches, clothing, souvenir items, etc.
nolimits Posted November 15, 2014 #3 Share Posted November 15, 2014 Remember only duty free for/up to certain amounts and certain quantities.
Rare orville99 Posted November 15, 2014 #4 Share Posted November 15, 2014 There was a 3-night Bahamas cruise when Sandy hit that ended up being a cruise to nowhere. If I remember the thread correctly, since the ship never docked anywhere outside of the U.S., they didn't need to clear customs or declare anything when they got back. The_Big_M Posted November 15, 2014 #5 Share Posted November 15, 2014 While the shops will be open outside limit, alcohol and tobacco will not be for sale as it is not going to another country.
Rare orville99 Posted November 15, 2014 #6 Share Posted November 15, 2014 While the shops will be open outside limit, alcohol and tobacco will not be for sale as it is not going to another country. They both were for sale on the cruise I referenced.
cruzdreamz Posted November 16, 2014 Author #7 Share Posted November 16, 2014 Thanks for your replies, wasn't sure if the duty free rules were the same for an Australian cruise to nowhere.
The_Big_M Posted November 17, 2014 #8 Share Posted November 17, 2014 They both were for sale on the cruise I referenced. Yours was in the US with a scheduled international stop. The ones referred to here are "to nowhere" i.e. no scheduled international stop. Hence the restrictions apply.
aussiebrad79 Posted February 6, 2015 #9 Share Posted February 6, 2015 How does the duty free work on one of these cruises? If I buy something from the shop (i.e alcohol / tobacco), can I consume it on board, or does it get stored until we arrive back at the port? timtam2 Posted February 6, 2015 #10 Share Posted February 6, 2015 (edited) There is no duty free alcohol or tobacco for sale on cruises to nowhere ex Australian ports. That shop will be closed Edited February 6, 2015 by timtam2
