Sprocket Rocket Posted December 31, 2014 #1 Share Posted December 31, 2014 My daughter and I are planning a Med Cruise. June is the only month we can pull this off. Itinerary will be Rome, Livorno, Nice, Barcelona, Mallorca, Naples, Rome. We are looking to book an inexpensive inside cabin, and many are located forward. Not sure if we will be on NCL or RCCL yet. How are the seas this time of year in this area?
Rare Hlitner Posted December 31, 2014 #2 Share Posted December 31, 2014 You probably already know that the seas are unpredictable anywhere in the world. That being said, the Med is generally under a huge high pressure system in the summer June-August which also results in pretty calm seas. That is a good time for your itinerary since you should beat the summer heat (especially in Rome) which can make July-Aug a bit oppressive on some days. Sprocket Rocket Posted December 31, 2014 Author #3 Share Posted December 31, 2014 I was thinking the same. I fish offshore in Central Florida and June is a very calm month weather-wise. Thanks for responding.
CruiserBruce Posted December 31, 2014 #4 Share Posted December 31, 2014 (edited) Off shore Florida is not related to the area around Italy. June is generally described as a really good time to go to the Med, weather wise. But it can't be predicted. Last in June on a land tour, we had record or near record temps for 10 straight days. 100 degs F in Florence on Jun 9 is really hot. Even the locals were complaining. If June is the only time you can go, does the weather really matter? Edited December 31, 2014 by CruiserBruce
Sprocket Rocket Posted January 1, 2015 Author #5 Share Posted January 1, 2015 The main reason I asked was related to cabin selection. I wouldn't want a high deck forward cabin if the odds were in favor of rough seas. The reason I mentioned fishing offshore FL was simply to state that I understand how variable weather can be. cberge Posted January 1, 2015 #6 Share Posted January 1, 2015 It is always best to do mid ship no matter when you cruise or where if you don't want to take the chance to rock and roll, and lower is better than upper.
LondonTowner Posted January 3, 2015 #7 Share Posted January 3, 2015 Obviously, weather is unpredictable, but generally, June is one of the best months to visit the Med. The weather should be good, not too hot and not too crowded as the children are still at school.
Sprocket Rocket Posted January 4, 2015 Author #8 Share Posted January 4, 2015 Just booked on the Allure out of Rome. Forward cabin was all that was available in our price range. With all the ports we'll be off the ship a lot. Really looking forward to this. We'll be in London, Paris and Florence for 10-12 days before the cruise so I needed to go with an inside cabin budget wise.
