traveling by bus

My sons will be travling by grey hound bus from Mich to the port in New York , we are going on the Dawn Dec. 11. My question is this, from the bus station in New York how far is the port where they board the ship? Can they get transportation from there to the port? Any information will be very helpfull.

Not far but I hope you are coming in a day early. That bus could be 12 hours late if the weather is bad and all you will do is wave to the ship from the pier.

The trains run better in winter weather than buses. Amtrak's Lake Shore Limited has a good record of being within an hour on time.... It arrives in New York City before noon, and the ship don't leave until dusk....

How do I get infomation on the trains? We live in the country here, so I am not sure what you are talking about. Do they run from Mich to New York?

You can go to http://www.amtrak.com or cal the 800 number.

Trains run from Michigan to Chicago, and the Lake Shore Limited runs from Chicago to New York City thru South Bend, Waterloo, and Toledo, cities and towns in Indiana and Ohio just below the Michigan border. Since I'm not exactly sure where you live in Michigan, you could catch a train to get to Chicago or drive a car to one of the stops mentioned before on the Lake Shore Limited's route.

 

I suggested the train only because it does in a winter snow storm keep a better schedule than say a bus does.... Check out Amtrak at http://www.amtrak.com

Amtrak's Pennsylvania Station in New York City is under Madison Square Garden. Its only a few miles away from the docks of New York City, a short cab ride away.....
