rostbp Posted February 2, 2015 #1 Share Posted February 2, 2015 We are on the HAL 15 day Yukon Triple Denali that includes a one way White Pass and Yukon Route RR trip. We were thinking about doing a land tour from Skagway that goes back 70 miles into the Yukon to Emerald Lake and Carcross and of course other stops along the way. Would this be too repetitive to the train tour?? I am thinking not, but would like anyone’s opinion that knows. The tour we were looking at is with Dyea Dave. bonvoyagie Posted February 3, 2015 #2 Share Posted February 3, 2015 OK you will be on a bus from Whitehorse to Carcross - you will probably stop at Emerald Lake and the Carcross Desert before reaching Carcross and boarding the train to Skagway - a wonderful 6hr journey that skirts Lake Bennett to Fraser. At Fraser the RR and Hy begin to parallel each other a few miles down the line the rr heads for the opposite side of the canyon the views are similar - but different. So when you backtrack 70 miles to Carcross with Dyea Dave the scenery from Fraser to Carcross will all be new. There are also some sights along the hy that you won't see from the railroad and just in case you did not stop at Emerald lake the previous day you will with Dave. I would not hesitate to do the tour with Dave - it will give you a different perspective and vistas too boot :D
