Port shuttle bus Civitavecchia

First time on NCL for us and are embarking on the Jade 23rd February. We're having a few days in Rome first then catching the train to the port. We had a day in Rome last year and a shuttle bus was provided from the QM2's berth to a car/ coach park not too far from the port entrance. From there we did the pleasant walk to the railway station for the day return to Rome.

My question to those in the know is will there be a complementary shuttle bus provided and if so is it obvious where from and if there isn't a bus how do you get into the port? From memory it seemed quite a distance from the berth to the dock gates. I remember seeing the Jade docked much (seemingly) closer last year.

Thanks in advance

Not sure when you were in Rome with the QM2, but at some point last year they changed the pick up and drop off point for the free port shuttle. It used to leave from just inside the south entrance of the port (close to the train station), but now it leaves from the north entrance, which is a pretty long walk from the station if you have heavy luggage.

From the train station in Civitavecchia you can catch a city bus that will take you to this north entrance of the port, where you can wait for the free port shuttle to the ship. Or you can probably hire a taxi to take you directly from the station to the ship.

We were on NCL Jade Oct 23/Nov 12 for Med/Adriatic cruise.

Answer to your question is no and yes!

If you can manage your luggage:

Buy a bus token in the train station at Civitavecchia. Exit the train station and turn right, walk about 30 feet and there will be the bus stop. The bus starts at the train station and ends at the port bus stop. From the port bus stop you will board the complimentary NCL shuttle.

As an aside, we were at the port 2011 or 2012 on another cruise line and we hopped off the ship and walked about 1000 yards to the train station. I don't know whether they made adjustments to the port or ship's size depend where they dock, but NCL Jade docked farther away from town.

Is your trip RT Civitavecchia? Our ship docked at 5am, we got off about 6-7am, and it was drizzling. Shuttle to port bus stop no problem, but bus to train does not start running until 8am and there were no cabs. We got a gypsy cab for 20E. Ciao
