Tender port

Absolutely, Cayman is a tender port.

There have been discussions/plans/requests for proposals/revisions/new plans/more discussions for years talking about building a pier that can handle cruise ships directly docking. No actual pier project has begun construction.

In Cayman the normal tendering locations are in the Hog Sty Bay area right in the heart of George Town. There are three potential tender piers, North, South, and Royal Watler.

The Waterfront Centre building is at 28 North Church Street, a very short walk (<50 meters) from the Royal Watler Terminal and only about 3 blocks from the North and South Terminals.

However... on occasion ships tender to an alternate site at Spotts. This site is only used when northwest wind and waves make tendering to the normal sites in George Town unsafe. Spotts is several miles from George Town and buses will be lined up on those dates to take you to town, for a price.

Check over on the Jamaica port of call boards for questions about Montego Bay!

Do you know if Monteo bay is a tender port? (I know wrong thread)

Montego is not a tender port. We docked there two weeks ago today but it wasn't planned. We were supposed to dock in Falmouth but weather conditions didn't allow for that so we docked in Montego. Two ships ported in Montego that day that weren't originally supposed to and they still had space to accommodate us.

GC tender landings

The top (north) tender landing area is the primary site in Georgetown and puts you waterfront on the edge of the downtown area, pretty much across the street for M'ville. The two areas to the south are the older and smaller landing but will come into use when there are several ships in. They are all within a two city block area . . .

For additional perspective

Sunset House is less than a mile south of town. An easy walk.

Spotts Bay, on the south side of the island, will only be used if the weather makes all the downtown landings unusable. If that happen a) your tour operator knows and b) only a ship or two will be allowed to stay as Spotts can't handle the pass' load of 4 or 5 .... your tour operator will know that too.

Thank you so much - this is really helpful. We are looking forward to our first (and hopefully not last) visit to Grand Cayman.
