Taxi to and from Baie Rouge

I am still undecided as to what I want to do on this island. One itinerary is doing baie Rouge for part of the day and then Maho for the other. Depending on when the large planes are landing, I would be doing port -> baie rouge -> maho -> port or port -> maho -> baie rouge-> port.

 

Would getting a taxi to/from baie rouge be easy? Not looking at renting a car

It's easy enough to get a taxi to Baie Rouge - not so easy being sure of getting one back - at least at the time you want it. It's not like Orient or Dawn Beach where there is a fair amount of taxi traffic and a number of places which will call one for you. Either make a deal with the driver who takes you there, or be prepared to offer a generous tip to the food shack to get one called for you.

Aww that sucks. I'm looking for some waves and that seems to have been the best one. I'm bored with calm beaches. Moving on to another itinerary

You might try Dawn Beach - there you may get light wave action, not as much as sometimes you get at Baie Rouge, but enough to get some posters on these threads to write Dawn off as being too rough. It all depends on how you define rough.

I thought of Dawn beach but saw pics from oct/nov 2014 where it was full of seaweed. Made me not want to risk it

I spent two weeks at Dawn Beach in January - there was still a little bit of seaweed drifting in, but it was all raked up by 10:00 AM every day - leaving the beach in great shape.

Did the seaweed come back or was it gone for the rest of the day?

A little came in during the day, but not enough to be a problem. Usually by morning there was enough to rake up, but it seemed to be less and less as time went on.
