bburns Posted May 1, 2004 #1 Share Posted May 1, 2004 Going to the Baltic on the Grand Princess in July. Did some research and it looks like the highs only get to about 70degrees F. Past cruises have all been to the Caribbean and Mediterranean. People were pretty dressy for the shore excursions on those, but on the other hand, the temps were much warmer. HELP!! What are typical clothes for shore excursions in Baltic?
FLJudi Posted May 1, 2004 #2 Share Posted May 1, 2004 Be prepared for a variety of different weather. Layers work. Bring a rain poncho. We were there in July and spent most of our time in long pants (Docker type) or capris. Some days we wore short sleeved polos and other days we wore sweaters and microfiber jackets. It warmed up later in the cruise and we saw lots of people in Bermudas. Jeans were very common in every country. Andee Posted May 4, 2004 #3 Share Posted May 4, 2004 I took black lightweight pants, khakis and summer weight jeans, with mix and match short sleeved tops and a couple of micro fiber fleece tops. I also recommend a hooded rain jacket, and some city shorts in case you hit a heat wave like we encountered.
north-bound Posted May 4, 2004 #4 Share Posted May 4, 2004 Good advice from FLJudi and Andee. Layers are the way to go. The weather here in the Baltic region varies a lot. On a sunny day in July the afternoon temperatures are likely to be in the 80ties. But as soon as the sun disappears it will get cooler. And there is always the possibility of rain. Last summer we had a lot of really hot and sunny weather, but nobody knows what it will be like this year.
irismike Posted May 4, 2004 #5 Share Posted May 4, 2004 Northbound: We are doing the baltic cruise, may 19th. Any idea how the weather is during that time and what time of clothing we should take? Thanks
north-bound Posted May 4, 2004 #6 Share Posted May 4, 2004 Just as during the summer it is impossible to predict what the weather will be at a certain time. But in May it is often dry and sunny. But since it is early in the summer season the sea will not be warm at all yet, which means that it will not get really hot. In the evenings, and on days without sun, it is likely to be rather cold. So do come prepared for everything. From shorts and polo shirt to pants and a warm sweather. Do bring a light jacket too, and something to wear if it rains.
