Ship design?

I know one of you will be able to answer this, I am curious as to why with the newer ships they have the design where there balconies go in and out, basically the ship is skinny in some parts and wider at others?

If I am not clear, which I am told I am not clear too often by my spouse :) I guess I am asking why on the Jewel class for example, all of the balconies are even with each other, but not the new builds?

It seems they lose so much valuable square footage when they bring the ships design in that way. I am sure they have reason, do you know why?

TIA

creates a more even flow inside the ship when walking around. The cabins that "bump out" so to speak on the BA class are mini suites, and are slightly deeper. It makes more sense to have them jut out from the ship slightly, rather than have them detract from the room inside the superstructure.
