That was the case with the QE2 in the early 1970s. Cunard advertised pre-release films would be shown. I recall seeing The day of the Jackal on board the ship a few months before it appeared in Toronto cinemas.

 

I wish they would do that again but it will never happen due to world premieres and such.

Day of the Jackal! I must have seen it five times on a QE2 Boston-St. Maarten-Martinique-St. Thomas cruise in 1974. Thrilled me at the time. Great movie.
