When's the best time to cruise to Spain?

As you are aware, the weather is fairly unpredictable. However, we've taken 3 cruises that had a number of ports in Spain in late-September and early-October and the weather was wonderful - temperatures in the high 70's and no problems with rain.

It depends where you are going in Spain. The north of Spain has coolish, rainy weather. The Canary Islands has an all year round sub tropical climate and in the Mediterranean it is very hot in July/August and can be cold and rainy in the winter months.

Spain is known for having the three main climate zones of Atlantic, Continental and Mediterranean. While extreme heat can hit the area around Seville and Cordoba and sometimes Madrid in July and August, coastal areas are more temperate, with the Balearic Islands and Canary Islands having their own 'micro-climates' in zones.

We, for instance, have a micro-climate just in the area around Marbella in the Malaga province where temps are pleasant year round.

As there are several of these micro-climates it is very difficult to refer to Spanish weather directly as one thing as it is very local specific.

Here is a link that shows average temps in Marbella for an example.

Balearic Islands are very hot in peak summer as well, maybe not as hot as some parts of Spain, but expect to feel the heat.

The best time if you want to avoid the heat would be May / June. We live in the middle of the Mediterranean sea, so we are not looking for beaches / swimming only when we travel, so we tend to travel during the first half of June.

September / early October can be a very good month as well (is warm enough in the Med), but you might be unlucky with the rain. The weather changes rapidly usually the second half of October.
