I'm OK paying NCL an additional $6.65 on a 7-day cruise

All the posts going around about NCLs verified and not-verified price changes, has anyone priced out the initial cost of their cruise plus your average spending on all the cruise lines? I got curious after reading some of the posts, so I did and I'm OK with paying the extra $6.65 DSC increase. ($12 to $12.95 per day). :D

This is only MY experience as a solo traveler in a double occupancy outside room (no studio), it doesn't mean it is everyone's. (My cruise was $1014 with UDP)

1 Traveler paying d/o

Outside Room

Western Caribbean between Dec 5-19 (no holiday)

Includes 2-4 same ports: Grand Cayman, Cozumel, Costa Maya, Jamaica, Private Island

Today's Price, cruise only

NCL $1044

Holland $1582

Royal Caribbean $1412

Carnival $1059 Non-refundable deposit price

Princess $1273

Celebrity $1498

Wish I could day the same !

We chose this ship for the on board amenities because we are travelling with kids and driving to the port of NY. The cheaper option would have been Celebrity but them, it's not as 'kid -friendly'. The Grandeur is even cheaper but it's leaving from Baltimore which is an even further drive. So the Breakaway it is ! It's considerably more expensive than my other options... Hopefully, we still get the best 'bang for our buck'

August 23 to Bermuda

NCL Breakaway 949$

NCL Dawn 799$

Celebrity Summit 749$

Grandeur of the Seas 708$

Breakaway looks really cool. Is Celebrity aimed at an older crowd? I think you made the right choice. On cruises with so many Sea days, the ship needs to keep us busy. I wish I lived somewhere near a year round port... always have the added fee of airfare. I might change my cruise if the Alaska cruise drops lower in Sept.

I think you are correct... and pretax? else I would be right on that Breakaway price. :D

For my original post, the prices were for the entire cabin including tax, since it's for 1 person.. so it would be a similar cabin price for 2 plus additional tax - since I am charged tax for 1.

I also cruise on Celebrity and yes, they do have an older crowd. Celebrity is more dressy, especially for dinner. They have formal nights, but you can avoid them by eating in the specialty restaurants (which are more expensive than NCL's) or the buffet.

So more like the golden days of cruising? How fun would that be? I always imagine meeting Cary Grant and drinking pink champagne :)

I think NCL was the first to start with the casual all the time theme. My first few cruises I brought several formals, had to eat French just to not feel over dressed in the dinning room. I'll have to try Celebrity one day - I've been eyeing their California coast cruises for several years.

Well not actually like the golden days of cruising. It is just a couple steps up from NCL.

When I first started cruising with Celebrity, they had someone walk you to your cabin upon embarkation, waiters wore white gloves to serve dinner on real china and women wore more formal gowns and men tuxes. Now, no one walks you to your cabin, no gloves and not fine china and not that many formal gown and fewer tuxes, but it is still a great line and you will get a glass of sparkling wine when you board the ship. Some Celebrity "loyalists" are always complaining that they want it more like the old days and hate all of Celebrity's changes.

Did the Danube cruise with Grand Circle Cruise Line last summer. They walked us to the cabin, every meal was on fine china with superb service and multi course meals - and unlimited beverages. Everyone dressed up... not tuxes, but nicer. Tours were included, so on and so forth. But I paid for it too...something like $3200 each before air for 10 days. Felt like first class.

You might want to try Crystal (I also cruise with them), if you want something more like the good old golden age of cruising. Very dressy, drinks included, but not shore excursions, but it is pretty pricey.

Sure, with my lottery winnings. My retired friends travel a lot on Crystal. I'm with NCL for a reason... Price and value. Grand Circle was a trip I escorted my Mother on. I might consider Carnival if I could swim better... LOL

I use to just cruise Crystal and then added Celebrity into the mix, so I could cruise more and then added NCL into the mix, so I could really cruise more. All three are great lines, just different. I've never had a bad cruise on any of these lines.

kessdarln, if I read this correctly. Since you're a solo, they let you booked an outside room (balcony) for $1044 cruise fare only (before taxes & fee)?

Which ship and category room are we talking about?

Spirit, Dec. 12, 2015, outside GTY. I paid $1014. Yesterday the price was $1044, that is for 1 person with no AARP or other box or state checked. The two weeks between the major holiday have the lowest rates. Studios on Getaway are $422 before tax those weeks in 2016. That's not a bad deal for one person in an outside /OV/Balcony room - that's normally the price for 2 in an inside room. I too got a good deal on Getaway for 12/4 for the $442 & $799 for the Escape for 11/26, both studio rooms. A good deal is whatever doesn't break one's wallet - those trips are not bad especially for solo travelers.

And I got UBP with it! I'm so glad they are making it easier for solos to afford to travel.

Yes, I pretty surprised to be able to do 2 week trips back-to-back years ( this year's 12 day and next year's b2b). And if prices fall down alot this or next year, maybe I'll do a last-minute inbetween.

If only I had more days off. These deals are making it so easy to book. I wondered if b2b same ports and ship were a good idea. Originally I booked Gem out of San Juan the week before but that was 1239 total but with UBP. I think GW will keep me busy for 2 weeks.

I have 17 days left, still trying to figure what to do with them.:p Trying to plan another trip (land vacation)but cruising spoiled me when comes to not paying for food and having a glass of drink anywhere near by.:( I don't mind repeating ports as long its month or more inbetween trips ~or~b2b was so dirt cheap; "I'm like screw it, who cares".:p

I'm heading to GB in 7 weeks (yes, I'm counting) and that will eat them all and I have to wait a bit for some more. I'm ready for some downtime, just me and my mimosas and no cares :D
