Ocruise Posted April 3, 2004 #1 Share Posted April 3, 2004 Hi all. We are still looking to book our Southern Carribbean cruise this July. We have it narrowed down between the Golden Princess and RCCL's Adventure of the Seas. I'm reading alot of reviews & getting great advice from everyone on this board. The only thing that I read that bothered me was several Golden Princess Reviews that said that this is a "smoker's ship", that there are not designated smoking spots on this ship like other ships (ex; on Celebrity you could only smoke in the casino, bar, or outside) What I read was that the dining room is non-smoking, but people can smoke anywhere else and many pople do. Has anyone found this to be true? We are non smokers, and being from NY we have gotten so spoiled with the smoking ban in pretty much all public places (bars, restaurants, anywhere indoors) we would not want to be around a lot of smoke, it aggravates my husband's asthma. So if there is a lot of smoking on this ship, I don't think it's the one for us. Thanks for any/all advice, Marina

There is not many places to smoke indoors. It was respected on our trip. You should have no problem. bidro Posted April 4, 2004 #3 Share Posted April 4, 2004 How many people actually smoke these days anyway? Go and have fun!
CruiseFever Posted April 4, 2004 #4 Share Posted April 4, 2004
quote:
several Golden Princess Reviews that said that this is a "smoker's ship",

No way. This was my first cruise after quitting smoking after our December cruise and I, too, was concerned about this. With the exception of the casino, smoke is easily escapable on this ship, moreso than any I've yet seen (never sailed the smoke-free Paradise) Even Skywalkers, the nightclub, has a smoke-free area with good ventilation. This should not be a concern on the Golden, put your mind at ease. lacruisecat Posted April 4, 2004 #5 Share Posted April 4, 2004 What about the outdoor decks? Some cruise ships have one side for smokers and the other side for non-smokers. Does Princess do this?
LVIGGIANI Posted April 4, 2004 #6 Share Posted April 4, 2004 Im assuming all Princess Ship might have the same policy , but if they dont. Having sailed on the Grand Nov.03, the left side of the ship , you could smoke outside. jnwfla Posted April 4, 2004 #7 Share Posted April 4, 2004 Yes, when outside (other than your own balcony, where you can do as you please) the port side is for smokers.
pg. Posted April 4, 2004 #8 Share Posted April 4, 2004 Ocruise, I haven't read "serveral " reveiws stating the Golden was a " smokers ship" I have read ONE, and it was a VERY negative review in all respects, remember to take reviews that are ALL positive or ALL negative with a grain of salt. The casino is the only place we encountered smokeyness when we travelled on the Grand ( eastern ) 5 years ago, and as pointed out by one of the posters less people smoke now then years ago, so relax and don't worry , you'll have a great time on Princess. Ocruise Posted April 4, 2004 Author #9 Share Posted April 4, 2004 Thanks so much for your advice. Everyone here confirmed what I thought, because all my friends at work said that thery were not bothered by smoke on Princess. (The only line I had heard about this across the board is Costa) I'm glad to hear that because the reviews I read were all positive, and the smoking thing was the only negative I had read. I'm leaning towards Princess for our Southern Carribbean cruise because out of all the reviews I read about the Golden vs. Adventure of the Seas, the reviews for the Golden were consistently more positive, there were much more mixed reviews for the AOS. Thanks again to all, you are helping to make my decision much easieer. Marina
obe1 Posted April 4, 2004 #10 Share Posted April 4, 2004 I just got off the Golden last week, I, too, am a non-smoker and I was never once bothered by smoke. Skywalkers Nightclub has one side that is non-smoking and I know that Explorers Lounge is non-smoking, all dining rooms, Princess Theater, Vista Lounge are all non-smoking. The only smoke I encountered on the entire cruise, was a woman who was sitting on the floor, close to the ashtray, near the elevators on deck 10. She must have chosen not to smoke in her cabin so she came here to smoke, this did not bother me at all, as she was there in the morning and I was usually just passing by on my way to the gym. We had a wonderful cruise on the Golden, I did post a review. Rose Time left 'til we sail on Caribbean Princess!
