Will be first time visitor to Belize in November. Is there such a thing as a city tour? We would just like to be able to get off the ship, and do a tour of the city. Tour operator names would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

We were just in Belize and while driving out to do Cave Tubing, we drove through the city and were given a brief history. Honestly, I would not spend any money doing a tour of the city, it was unimpressive, especially compared to some of the other cities in the Caribbean. It seemed very industrial without much charm... Just my opinion...

In a sense, you make a good observation. Belize City is a working city not a tourist destination. Not many of us would want to travel to Gary, Indiana, or Toledo, Ohio, for vacay. (Pulled those out of the hat, so people from Gary or Toledo, don't flame me.:p) Nevertheless, there are some historical sites and museums that are visited on the organized city tour. St John's Church, The old Governor's mansion, now a cultural museum. There's a large farmers market and a couple of art museums as well. You can, if willing and able, walk to all these places from the tender pier. Reasonably safe in the day time. But find a good guide book and map to Belize City and pick out what you'd like to see, then catch a taxi and have the driver take you around. Probably cheaper than an organized tour and certainly no add ons. The driver could probably even recommend a lunch stop at a local restaurant.
