gail-s Posted June 16, 2015 #1 Share Posted June 16, 2015 Quick question about the phones in the suites. it says in the paperwork that the suites on the Dawn have a cordless phone for you to use on the ship. I'm assuming it's for calling the concierge. Can you call rooms with it? Is there just one phone or are there multiple in the room? We're in a Family Suite w/ Balcony. Thanks! Just one cordless phone in the suite. You can use it around the ship to call other cabins as well as to call back to your own cabin....or call the Butler or Concierge. cadien Posted June 17, 2015 #3 Share Posted June 17, 2015 You should have a couple desk phones as well as a cordless, so two people can stay in touch if one is in the cabin and the other has the cordless with them elsewhere on the ship. It was also very handy for staying in touch with family in a different suite on a different deck. No one had to be in their rooms.
amarvel Posted June 17, 2015 #4 Share Posted June 17, 2015 the phone was one of the best perks for us. We would carry it with us and then we could call the phone from our cabin and visa versa to meet up and coordinate. We used it to call our butler about meals we wanted even if we were not back in the cabin to get a jump start on an order. And we were able to give it to the kids academy as well so if they needed to contact us they had a direct line to us.

gail-s Posted June 17, 2015 Author #6 Share Posted June 17, 2015 Thanks for the information! We were thinking if DD went off to do something it would be a way to get in touch with her. I'm not paying for WiFi, she'll eat through that in nothing flat.

cadien Posted June 17, 2015 #9 Share Posted June 17, 2015 We have a suite on her sister ship the Star...Dos anyone know if there are suite phones on the Star? Yes. That's what we were actually on two months ago. Both our suite and the in-laws' had the portable phones. That was an SA and an SB, in case someone has information about it only being in some of the suite classes.

DaisyGoldberg Posted June 17, 2015 #11 Share Posted June 17, 2015 Our SJ penthouses (no balcony) on the Dawn had the cordless phone. Didn't really see the point. It was basically a household cordless phone -- seemed like more of a hassle to carry around than it was worth. I can see if you had a large party it would simplify keeping in touch. Kinofdc Posted June 17, 2015 #12 Share Posted June 17, 2015 (edited) The portable phones are just about absolutely indispensable for the 2 of us in the GV. There are several portable phones in the GV, but of course we only use 2 of them as there are only 2 of us. The first time when we stayed in the GV many, many months ago, we initially thought the portable phones were merely nice marketing gimmicks. But within a few hours, we swiftly came to the conclusion of how useful they were. Even just within the GV, after knocking at 3/4 doors, running upstairs (the outdoor area), downstairs and the outdoor areas searching for each other a few times (that's just within the GV, try finding each other in the rest of the ship), we finally, despite the initial reluctance, succumbed to the bliss and conveniences of the portable phones. It's not as critical as in the GVs, but we still find it enormously convenient when we stay in the smaller suites; concierge, hotel director, butlers, Haven valet, etc. are all just 4 numbers away on the phone.
