If you are not planning on climbing the falls, do you have to enter at the bottom and walk the stairs to the top or can you also enter from the top and possibly walk down some stairs to get photos of the rest of your party who would be climbing the falls. Not sure if we will be taking the excursion from the ship or a private company. Thanks in advance for any help or advice you can provide.

Yes, there are two or three entrances (look out points) along the way.

the park entrance is at the top of the climbable portion of the falls

there is one walkway that runs alongside the river ... part of this is steps and part is incline .... along this walkway there are several overlooks and places where you can cross from the path to the river.

to climb the falls, one usually takes the walkway to the bottom of the falls, which is a beach area, and then climbs back up the falls to the entrance area. This is not REQUIRED however .... you CAN enter the water at the top and climb DOWN the falls ... or get in at any of the midpoints ....

A visitor that does not want to get wet, can go down the walkway as far, or as little as they want . . .

this picture is from the top of the climbable part .. near the park entrance and parking ... note no one is climbing higher ....

this picture was taken from an overlook about 1/2 way ...

Thank you so much for your replies and the photos. I have since booked with a private tour company and they were able to assure me that the entrance to the park is at the top of the falls and how much walking down (then up) is totally up to me. Thanks again for all your help. Cruise Critic people are awesome!

  • 3 weeks later...

Thanks to all of you for the question and answers. My question was going to be whether we had to climb the falls or if we could just go to see them. We will be on a cruise excursion. Apparently we do not have to make the climb.
