We used priceline and bid on a 3* and got the radisson for $50 per night. have also gotten the hyatt for $35. I did have the courtyard downtown booked for $100 per night. The holiday inn bayside is the closest to the port.

we plan to just take a cab--we have 4 people so I think the cost will be comparable. I have heard of transportation services that will take you to miami for $15 per person--also try larrryslimo.com--I have used them also. have fun, lilli

Cheapest way from FLL to Miami is usually to just rent a car.

Tri-County/Airport Express has a shared van service... http://www.floridalimo.com/

Larry's Limo is also good... http://larryslimo.com/

Marriott Courtyard... http://www.miamicourtyard.com/

And Holiday Inn... http://www.ichotelsgroup.com/h/d/hi/1/en/hd/miabb

...Are the least expensive "non-scary" hotels in downtown Miami.

We are sailing on Jan 2 on the Brillance and got the Hyatt for $75 a night this is high season and bowl week so some of the hotels are hard to get. I could book the HI myself and pay $139. We thought about flying into FLL and getting to Miami. To the pier you can get there for about $20- $25 but hotels were much more like $45 a person. Rental cars were cheaper but if you are not familiar with Miami traffic it can be a night mare. One year it took us 90 minutes to get from downtown miami to the the rental car drop off at the airport there are no drop offs at the pier. Or you can stay in FLL and then take the hotel shuttle back to the airport and catch a pier transport or the RCI transfer.
