We are interested in going to Harrison's cave, but the tours I can find through cruise are either too expensive or too big a package. Is there any cheaper way to do it? For instance, any local tours you can find off the cruise? or any public or taxi commute to the cave and take the cave tour there?

We just took cab from port .For 3 ppl total cost was around $150.00 (cab and caves tickets) From cruise would cost $300.00 . Just make sure you are first one out off the ship. Run as fast as you can to avoid lines in caves. It;s one off best excursions we had on CArib. islands . You don't walk in cave they just drive you around with guide. :p

We did Harrisons Caves on our trip in Nov. 2012. We took the local bus from the station about 5-10 mins walk from the cruise terminal along the promenade. The bus only runs once an hour and cost a couple of dollars each. Harrisons Cave was around $30 each, tour is about an hour and then caught the bus back. It was well worth the visit.

They do have a tour that allows you to walk the cave, as well as another more adventurous tour that takes you into the water with snorkel gear. Check their website since those tours are not offered on the ships.
